Making the rounds this morning is the disclosure that NBC bosses are not so thrilled with Ann Curry‘s desire to extricate herself out of her current contract with NBC so she can go and work with rival cable outlet CNN who have offered her a nightly slot set to begin airing in February.
The former Today co anchor has been campaigning to be let off the hook but so far NBC bosses have refused to budge (would you if you were paying the correspondent a cool $10 million a year?) and now have come up with a plan to keep her off the air for 6 months in exchange for letting her out of the contract.
Helping Curry’s cause has been the ‘interesting’ chiming of former Today co anchor Matt Lauer who has recently approached NBC bosses pleading for them to let Curry go (which is his way of pleading for his salvation too).
Reports an insider to radaronline: “NBC has made it clear that if they let Ann out of her contract, they want to keep her off the air of a competing network for at least six months. This is unacceptable to Ann. She has been on the air only in a very limited capacity,” since being dumped from the TODAY show.
It is not exactly sure how Curry is receiving NBC’s stipulations but it would almost certainly cost her the chance of getting a new shot at CNN, something that is probably irking her to no end and of course our perfect chamomile tea hero, Matt Lauer who was probably hoping he could sweep away the awful mess from last summer’s disastrous tea party….
