Matt Lauer for now still has someone looking over their shoulder for him.
It seems things have been getting a little uncomfortable for Matt Lauer and the folk over at NBC’s ‘The Today Show,’ ever since ratings of the show have been tumbling never mind the personal likability of the show’s chief co anchor plummeting over the last year. All things that have been exacerbated ever since the unceremonious dumping of former co anchor Ann Curry.
Aware that Matt Lauer has now become the focus of intense scrutiny, talk of him getting a massive pay cut have now come to the fore as well as media scrutiny questioning the wisdom of holding on to Mr Lauer now that it has become obvious that the show has continued to falter with Ann Curry aside.
There to defend him in recent days is the NBC producer Jim Bell who told the nypost that it was his idea to get rid of Ann Curry and if one should be the punching bag it should be him as Matt of course is sick and tired of being a punching bag. Oh dear….
In fact the nypost write up goes on to suggest Jim Bell refusing to take any responsibility with respect to Ann Curry being fired, something that the producer adamantly denies. Of course this might be all nice and polite and one would suppose Matt Lauer is relieved that there is someone still at NBC who thinks he is worth sticking up for but that may all change if Matt’s delicious daily cup of morning chamomile tea suddenly gets too cold, then let’s see Jim coming round (assuming that he himself survives) with a new hot fresh kettle….
