The love for Matt Lauer is greatest when he doesn’t turn up to work…
Radaronline are reporting that the cast and crew of NBC’s ‘Today show’ spent the past week in almost glee mode pursuant to co host Matt Lauer been off for holidays.
Said an insider to the radar: “The energy is just so much lighter and not as tense while Matt has been on vacation this past week. Everyone has breathed a sigh of relief. The crew just works better together, things just flow a lot easier, and no one is looking forward to Matt returning. Savannah is now settling into her role as being co-host and the staff is truly embracing her now. David Gregory has been filling on for Matt this past week and he and Savannah have a good chemistry. The cast and crew are very much aware that Good Morning America has been consistently beating them in the ratings but while Matt has been gone, it hasn’t been thrown in their faces everyday.”
Kids can we go over that again. No one is looking forward to Matt returning, and the bad shit that GMA is now spitting at the Today show is for now not been thrown back in their faces courtesy of the individual who many believe is the reason why GMA is pulling ranks over the Today show in the first place. Kids tell me there wasn’t a bottle of the good fizz in the background the moment Matt put away his chamomile tea cup and headed out for vacation? Phew!
And in case the reality check is a bit unsettling for Matt Lauer it might be a little more unsettling for Matt’s bosses over at Comcast who must be slowly chewing over the numbers below, which of course might explain the network’s recent about face in trying to get more of Ann Curry back on the morning show. Let’s see what happens when Matt gets back from vacation but then again it sounds like some might not mind if it were all a permanent vacation….
“Notching victories not seen in two decades, GMA won premiere week of the 2012-13 season (Sept. 24) in both adults 25-54 and total viewers, besting TODAY by significant margins. In the key demo, the ABC broadcast topped TODAY by 254,000 viewers (1.937 million over 1.683 million). And in total viewers, GMA won by a margin of 808,000 viewers (4.957 million over 4.149 million).”
