Ann Curry would like to remind Matt Lauer that he got it all wrong after all…
How sweet revenge is for Ann Curry who found herself unceremoniously dumped this summer as Today’s show co anchor at the behest of that preferred hawt bixch Matt Lauer. At the time of her ouster Ms Curry had been identified as the supposed culprit for the slide in the show’s ratings but it may now seem the culprit may in fact be Mr Lauer himself.
dailymail.co.uk: In the 10 weeks before Curry quit Today got 4.94 million viewers but in the 10 weeks since she left there were just 4.6million.
The figures will be especially depressing for NBC as they include its coverage of the London Olympics.
The network had hoped the $2.3billion that it paid for the exclusive rights to screen The Games would give it a huge ratings boost.
$2.3 billion? Wow and let’s not forget Matt’s $25 million sign on deal earlier this year too. That’s simply a bit too much loose change to be spending for sad laughs.
With Savannah Guthrie having gone on to replace Ms Curry (well that shit hasn’t worked out too well either Matt) and ratings continuing to plummet it seems Ms Curry has now had revenge especially as ‘Good Morning America’ is now set to win its third consecutive week in a row, suggesting it could now pull ahead once again.
GMA took the No.1 spot from Today for the first time earlier this year, ending its 16-year run as the most-watched morning show.
The viewing figures also show that there has been a shift away from Today among the key 25-54 audience.
In the 10 weeks before Curry left it was 2.1million but in the 10 weeks after it was just 1.9million.
Brad Adgate, Horizon Media’s senior vice president of research, told the New York Post: ‘The ratings point out the momentum ‘GMA’ has been building.
‘Viewers like what they’re doing – it’s all so personality-driven, and that’s a recipe for success.
‘Even though NBC had the Olympics, ratings have fallen back to pre-Olympic levels.’
Such are realities of corporate media….not that hasn’t dawned on Matt Lauer who’s probably begun looking over his own back too in recent weeks…
Then again there was this comment that also caught this author’s eye as well:
And the network will ride the downfall with Matt. This is what happens when you put all your efforts into a Prima Donna because you are afraid to move out of a comfort zone and try anything new.
