Increasingly deluded and living in his own diabolical make believe world?
As authorities begin to piece a profile on 20 year old Adam Lanza, the individual who last Friday savagely gunned down 27 individuals before taking his own life, what is increasingly becoming known about the young man is that he dedicated himself to round the clock playing of violent video games.
sun.co.uk: Lanza, 20, spent hours playing bloodthirsty computer games such as Call Of Duty and obsessivly studying weapons in the basement at mum Nancy’s home. It came as the first funerals of the victims were held yesterday.
Plumber Peter Wlasuk went into the basement many times while working at the plush four-bedroom house and got a glimpse into the disturbing underground world where Lanza plotted his crimes.
Wlasuk goes on to remark how the young man lived a disparaging existence where he essentially remained sequestrated in a violent make believe world.
“It was a beautiful house but he lived in the basement. I always thought that was strange.
“But he had a proper set up down there — computers, a bathroom, bed and desk and a TV. There were no windows.”
“Adam then moved down there. The boys were fans of the military. They had posters all over the wall in the basement.
“They had one poster of every piece of military equipment the US ever made.
“It was a huge poster with every tank every made. The kids could tell you about guns they had never seen from the 40s, 50s and 60s “The kids who play these games know all about them.
“I’m not blaming the games for what happened. But they see a picture of a historical gun and say ‘I’ve used that on Call Of Duty’.”
Hardly the comforting thought that a tortured mentally challenged young man with seething feelings of resentment was spending ample hours doing.
In fact so violent is the game ‘Call of Duty,’ the UK’s telegraph goes on to note the following:
Call Of Duty is controversial because of its violent content. The Advertising Standards Authority in the UK banned daytime advertising of the game earlier this year.
Fueling the young man’s dangerous preoccupation with violence was the fact that his mother Nancy was actively encouraging him to join her in shooting practice where he would finesse the use of guns. Perhaps it is no irony that Nancy Lanza who legitimately believed in the imminent coming of the end of the world took to the use of weapons in which she thought would protect her from a dangerous wayward world. Of course the irony is not lost on most that in the end her fear led to her own undoing at the hands of her own son.
One suspects in the end the video games and the shooting ranges was Adam Lanza’s only way of dealing with an existence that had left him embittered, humiliated and fighting the demons that threatened him, including his very own demons.
How uncanny perhaps then that Adam Lanza chose to play one more violent video game, but this one a very dangerous real live one. One which were he would at last dish out retribution for all that the world supposedly had done to him, zapping away indiscriminately, finally receiving the salvation and catharsis he desperately sought, even in death.
