Is James Holmes really insane after all…?
According to officials, James Holmes had been masterminding the very moment that he would come out of the emergency door blaring guns at unsuspecting audience members and then booby trap his apartment to smithereens when officers would later come to look for him for some time now. Which is to say it wasn’t something he had concocted on a whim or suddenly reacted to because someone said the wrong thing to him.
All of the above shows willful culpability and a determined desire to do harm and inflict grief. Yet prison officials and newly released prisoners from where James Holmes is being kept are describing a scene that suggests that as much as Holmes actions were premeditated and not necessarily based on an insane disposition the young man may really be seriously deluded as he has now come to believe that he is the anti hero, the villain, that is the Joker in real life and that he is staring in a kind of larger than life movie.
Offered one prisoner, Dima Danilov released from Arapahoe Detention Center where Holmes is being quarantined from other prisoners in a round the clock suicide watch:
‘He’s spitting at everything. Dude was acting crazy.’
Then there are the prison guards whose lack of contrition is unsettling prison employees:
‘Let’s just say he hasn’t shown any remorse. He thinks he’s acting in a movie.’
Offered another released inmate, 24 year old Wayne Medley:
‘All the inmates were talking about killing him. Everyone was looking for an opportunity. It’s all they could talk about.’
In fact prison officials may not be wrong to think that Holmes thinks he is in a movie, given the fact that the shooting took place in a kind of live simulacrum in a movie theater that audience members had come to believe they were about to watch but to their rueful surprise they found out they were now starring in their own horror block buster as Holmes pumped bullet after bullet at them.
In fact so real was Holmes initial entrance, or perhaps surreal presence, many had assumed initially that it was somehow part of the movie experience, with even other film goes in other adjoining cinemas at the complex thinking that the rampant gunshots were part of the movie playing next door.
It seems for the time being Holmes continues to play what he believes to be a legitimate movie role as he reads what in his mind is a real life script, including taking a high derivative dosage of vicodent the same time said to kill Heath Ledger (see video above) who played the Joker in earlier Batman installments.
At that stage it is anyone’s guess how far gone James Holmes really is or if it’s just a deliberate stage role that he refuses to let go off now that he has entered its ultimate climax- the get away from the jail cell….
