Republicans pass budget by pushing cuts for heating subsidies for the poor and raising the Pentagon’s budget.

America is starting to become a very scary place to live.

In an effort to stem a budget impasse congressional leaders last night agreed to push some ‘necessary’ (one has to applaud political rhetoric) budget cuts whilst at the same time raising budgets for other necessary departments- chiefly the Pentagon.

Opposing Views: $518 billion was allocated for the Pentagon’s core budget, a 1 percent boost, while $3.5 billion was given to Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP), a cut of about 25 percent, reports the Washington Post.

Ironically, one of every five families using LIHEAP is a military family, a 156 percent increase from 2008.

The Republicans were also able to cut students out of the Pell Grant program, which provides low-income people with money for higher education. The deal will preserve the maximum Pell Grant at $5,550, but change the program’s eligibility criteria, making as many as 100,000 of its 9 million recipients ineligible.

In other words more poverty, which forces more people to go and fight rich men’s our nation’s battles in exchange for an education now that more of the nation is being denied an education deemed necessary to get ahead in life. As for this upcoming winter, never mind, go join the Army, they’ll pay you do to as many push ups as possible to keep you warm as long as you don’t mind shedding some ‘necessary’ blood for your country. Let’s at least hope it’s not a brutal winter, then again it already looks like it is.

Being free in America is a wonderful concept as long as you can afford it…

  1. Really? And didn’t the Pentagon just lay off 1,100 employees. Where’s the increase? Really messing the the facts on this one. Do some research before twisting the Washington Post’s article.
