A Jewish community in Brooklyn is in mourning after a wigmaker with a suspended licence killed an Orthodox Jewish mother and her two children in a car crash in Gravesend, Saturday afternoon.
The collision took place at around 1 p.m. on Saturday, during Shabbat, on Ocean Parkway in the Midwood neighborhood of south Brooklyn, an area with a large Jewish population.
Police said that a silver Toyota Camry was attempting to make a turn when it was hit in the rear bumper by an Audi sedan as driven by Miriam Yarimi, 35, herself a local Jew. The Camry was pushed aside and the Audi jetted forward, hitting four pedestrians.

Orthodox Jewish community left reeling
Killed was Natasha Saada and two of her three children — daughters Diana, 8, and Debra, 5. Four year-old boy, Philip was identified as the surviving family member who remained in critical conditional at hospital.
Saada’s husband was at home with their fourth child, a baby, at the time.
New York City Mayor Eric Adams called the collision ‘a tragic accident of Shakespearean proportion.’
‘This is a very close-knit community, a very religious community,’ Adams said at a Saturday press conference in the area of the accident. ‘This is extremely concerning and painful, not only to the city of New York in general, but specifically to a very close-knit community.’
93 driving violations over the span of 1 and half years
Adams spent part of Sunday personally consoling the dad whose family had been ripped apart in the horror, telling the grieving man, ‘We’re all hurting.’
‘There’s not much one can say, but we’re here for you,’ Adams told the mourning father, who has not been identified, in a clip posted on Instagram by Jewish Breaking News. ‘We’ve received calls from so many parents who wanted me to tell you how much we’re all hurting.’
NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch, who is Jewish, said Yarimi was driving with a suspended license and that ‘speed certainly may have been a factor.’ Yarimi reportedly had accrued no less than 93 driving violations during the time she owned the Audi over a year and a half.
She has since been charged with crimes including three counts of manslaughter, three counts of criminally negligent homicide, assault, reckless driving and other traffic violations.
Community members circulated calls for prayers, and Brooklyn Jewish lawmakers mourned the deaths as preparationstook place for the funeral on Sunday.
