A suspect who opened fire on conservative influencer Charlie Kirk, killing him has been captured, FBI Director Kash Patel has confirmed.
Kirk, 31, was shot at 12.20pm during a rally at Utah Valley University by a gunman who was caught on camera dashing across a rooftop in the moments after he opened fire.

Terrified screams erupted as the Turning Point USA founder toppled from his chair after the shots rang out.
He was then rushed to a local hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.
A suspect accused of opening fire at Charlie Kirk as he spoke at Utah Valley University has been taken into custody, FBI Director Kash Patel has confirmed.
‘Thank you to the local and state authorities in Utah for your partnership with [the FBI],’ he wrote.
Utah Gov. Spencer Cox has also confirmed that a ‘person of interest’ is in custody and is being questioned by authorities. The official stated no additional people were believed to have carried out what he described as a ‘political assassination.’

‘Charlie believed in the power of free speech and debate to shape ideas and persuade people,’ the Republican state leader said.
Adding, ‘I’d like to remind you that we still have the death penalty here in the state of Utah.’
The gunman fired a single shot, hitting the 31-year-old founder of Turning Point USA while he was on stage conducting a Q&A session from a pop-up tent on the Oren campus during his American Comeback Tour, according to the Oren Police Department.
Leading up to the shooting, the conservative activist was seated at his ‘Prove Me Wrong Table’. fielding questions from students, including those who disagreed with him.
He had just been asked a question about mass shootings when the shot rang out.
The unnamed alleged assassin was on the run until he was captured following a manhunt, Patel said.
