Sometimes not giving back the rock will cost you your life and see you land in jail for 50 years.
We’ll let you figure out whether the punishment fits the crime, but here goes:
mercurynews: FRESNO, Calif.—A 21-year-old Fresno man has been sentenced to 50 years to life in prison for fatally shooting another man over a $20 piece of crack cocaine.
The Fresno Bee reports that Curtis Lee Washington on Monday received two sentences of 25 years to life—one for murdering 41-year-old Mario Mitchell, and another for using a gun.
Apart from the shooting and the death and the fact narcotics were involved one has to wonder if the punishment would have been just as onerous if for instance instead of a $20 piece of crack cocaine being involved- a single spliff was involved or just an outright $20 bill?
Prosecutors say Mitchell received a piece of crack cocaine from Washington in April and promised to pay Washington back.
A week later, Washington tracked Mitchell down and shot him in front of two people. Both witnesses testified during the trial.
Witnesses and crime aside, Curtis Lee Washington will effectively be asking himself for the rest of his life whether his actions justified receiving this particular punishment- not that it will necessarily dissuade other drug dealers from following in Curtis Lee Washington’s steps.
