In a gesture towards conciliation, Shakwura Dabre, 54, the mother of gunman, Ismaaiyl Brinsley who shot down two NYPD police officers, Wenjian Liu, 32 and Rafeal Ramos, 40 on Saturday has told she is deeply sorry for the actions of her son.

Identifying with the respective families’ pain the Brooklyn mother told: ‘I am still deeply sorry about what happened at the hands of my son,’ she said. ‘And please accept my deepest condolences, sincerely.
‘As a mother now I hurt for the loss of my son. Just like they’re hurting for the loss of their sons.’
In a feature with the nydailynews the mother would tell that her son son had struggled with mental illness his entire life and had repeatedly refused attempts by the family to try and help him.
That said the mother would decline to tell what type of issues her son necessarily had, noting that her son had ‘undiagnosed mental health issues,’ while all the while declining family efforts at help.
Previous reports would tell that Brinsley’s family would want nothing to do with him and feared him.

Reiterated Shakwura Dabre: ‘Unfortunately, this situation happened and it culminated in the end of his life and the tragic loss of two innocent police officers.’
On the day of the murders the mother had been out running errands when she was alerted that her son was in trouble by the estranged mother of his child.
Racing home the mother scanned the news on her laptop when she saw a photo of a man lying on a stretcher accompanying a story about the shooting.
‘I knew he was dead when I looked. I knew. He was gone. I knew he was my son,’ Dabre told via DNA Info.
When Dabre first saw the picture of her son on the stretcher, she didn’t know he had shot and killed Officers Rafael Ramos and Wenjian Liu, she said.
‘I was so torn when I saw him on that stretcher,’ she said. ‘Then I found out too that he did that. And I was horrified. Because I didn’t want no loss of nobody’s life.’
In describing her son, the mother would tell that she remembered him as being social and funny ‘free spirit’ who loved fashion.
Adding: ‘He was a very charismatic, likeable young man. He was very intelligent. He was witty. If he could channel his energies properly, he could’ve grown up to be a very good outstanding young man. And I had high hopes for him.’
Yet saddling Brinsley, Dabre would acknowledge deep bouts of depression which saddled her son as well as issues with anger management issues.
Reiterated the mother: ‘He tried to kill himself when he was about 14 years old, was briefly institutionalized and at one point took medications that made him gain weight,’
‘I wanted him to continue whatever they had him under, but he didn’t want to and I couldn’t make him,’
The mother would also disclose that she hadn’t spoken with her son since July.
Authorities have since told in the aftermath of Saturday’s tragedy, Ismaaiyl Brinsley had a long criminal record, a hatred for police and the government and an apparent history of mental instability that included an attempt to hang himself a year ago.
Shakwura Dabre’s son would mortally wound himself after firing a gunshot to his head after cops gave chase to the man who moments earlier had almost out of no where crept up to two unsuspecting police officers and shot them point blank dead and has since reignited fissure within and outside the NYPD.
