The New York Donor Network is a non-profit organization that is responsible for the recovery of the organs and tissue, but also provides education and promotes awareness (registration) of organ donation. Professor Volpe, faculty of FIT, has been a supporter of the NY Donor Network for years and just recently began partnering with the NY Donor Network to allow her students in both the Principles of Public Relations and Event Management courses to make a difference for the hundred thousand struggling for a new chance at life by hosting events such as the one this past Monday night.

Students exceeded expectations as they invited esteemed guests such as New Jersey Housewife Danielle Staub and Vogue stylist Alexa Winner. While New Jersey Housewife Danielle is a huge supporter of preventing domestic violence and hate crimes while promoting equality (the music video to her single “Cry” was filmed in an undisclosed woman’s shelter and will be released November 22nd), she is also a registered donor in the State of New Jersey and commends those who give the opportunity of life.  Stylist Alexa Winner, who was interviewed by our very own editor in chief Scallywag on Sunday at Café Giante, actually presented the guests with a photocopied picture of her Illinois driver’s license, in which she is sticking out her tongue. It clearly states that her beliefs are in donation on the right side of the license. Alexa even donated a styling session worth 500$ for a raffle that took place for the students of FIT after the presentations.

Also in attendance at the event were fashion designers Malan Breton, Alexander Berardi, celebrity blogger Tia Walker and Gemma Kahng. Former Iron Chef contestant and executive chef of Quattro Gartonomia Italiana, Fabrizio Carro gave his support along with a few gift cards to various restaurants throughout the city. Fashion editors of New York Magazine, Lauren Rae Levy, Amy O’Dell and Diana Tsui sat among the models in attendance, such as Alli Rizzo and Eric West. Celebrity personal trainer Brice Hall assisted with the raffle and Preston O’Neil Roberson-Charles from the MTV New Orleans Real World cast sat front row, encouraging the speakers with applause each time a tear hit the podium.

Kristin Moloni is now spending her days finishing online courses all the while heading the New York Donor Network’s Brooklyn event and awareness team. Almost as star-struck as her grandparents (who were there to support her with the rest of her family), Kristin had a chance to meet everyone in the room, but I believe it was everyone in the room that wanted to meet and to salute Kristin, for being so brave and determined to succeed with her recent gift of life.
