George Isbell jr. 69 year old City Heights, San Diego, California man indicted sending threatening letters to Benny Johnson, Tampa, Florida conservative commentator, just days after Charlie Kirk assassination in the latest episode of political violence in the U.S.
A San Diego, California area man has been charged with sending threatening letters to a conservative podcaster and a close associate of influential influencer, Charlie Kirk just days after the provocative activist was assassinated while addressing university students in Utah last month.
The letters accused the recipient of stoking hate and division amongst his ‘conservative’ followers and that there would be ‘lethal’ consequences.
Latest installment of political violence in America
According to federal court documents, in a press release titled, ‘California Man Charged Federally for Mailing Threat to Injure and Kill,’ City Heights resident George Russell Isbell Jr., 69, was charged with sending threats in the mail to a conservative podcaster’s home in Tampa, Fla., eight days after Kirk’s murder.
The indictment states federal investigators previously investigating Isbell for sending at least one other threat to a Louisiana politician in 2021.
The investigation began after the wife of a conservative media personality, reported to have ‘deep ties’ to the Trump administration, received a letter at their home in Tampa, Florida. The indictment did not name the recipient.
Nevertheless during a Friday press conference, United States Attorney General Pam Bondi, standing alongside Tampa conservative podcaster and YouTuber, Benny Johnson, confirmed him to be the recipient of threatening letters.
According to court documents, the podcaster’s wife contacted police in September after opening a letter postmarked at a post office branch in Carmel Mountain on September 18, eight days following Kirk’s murder at Utah Valley University in Orem, Utah.
Who is George Isbell California Democrat?
The typewritten letter decried the podcaster as a ‘prostrating Trump boot licker’ ‘who needed to be exterminated.’
The letter criticized the podcaster for ‘spewing hatred’ and accused him of stoking the emotions of his ‘racist’ followers.
‘You are Charlie Kirk Jr. Sick of you white CIS Shristian whiners spewing hate while hiding under the veneer of legitimate debate,’ read a portion of the letter.
‘Saw you have millions of racist subscribers,’ continued Isbell. ‘I must admit I did not realize how many of you shallow, bigoted slugs exist in the U.S…You all need to be exterminated. Don’t worry – won’t be me- I’m not giving up my freedoms for worm sh*@ like you.’
Concluded the letter, ‘The saddest part of your drivel is your contamination of naive minds. Maybe someone will blow your head off!!! We can hope! Planning any public engagements? Love to see your head explode and your blood stain the concrete red. What a sight!’
Investigators sent the letter to a forensic lab in Florida, where one set of fingerprints taken from the letter matched those of Isbell.
During their investigation, agents found Isbell had previously sent a threatening message to a Louisiana State Representative in 2021 according to CBS8.
The 2021 threat accused the politician of being a ‘terrorist cop killer.’
‘Isbell told [the politician] that [he] will for the rest of your life be a terrorist cop killer. Don’t pretend to back the badge. Maybe Trump will lynch you next time instead of Mike Pence. We can only hope.’
357 handgun found at Isbell’s City Heights home
A footnote included in the October 9 court document states that prosecutors and investigators were unsure whether the 2021 email would be deemed an actual threat under the law.
On October 7, San Diego Police arrested Isbell near a Logan Heights Costco.
During the interview, Isbell admitted to sending the letter to the conservative podcaster in Florida.
Isbell told officers that he remembered becoming angered after seeing the podcaster had referred to himself as a ‘sensation.’
Isbell said he wrote that letter and ‘several’ others, but could not remember the names of all the recipients.
Court documents show police confiscated a .357 handgun from Isbell’s City Heights home.
Stated Pam Bondi during Friday’s press conference, ‘violence has been mainstreamed by the Democrat Party.’
