
Tesha Florence, Wichita, Kansas mother shoots 16 year old son inside apartment following dispute. Gun violence follows mother threatening ex husband and his girlfriend with gun earlier this year.
A Wichita, Kansas woman is reported to have shot her 16 year old son, Wednesday morning, leaving the teen boy in ‘extremely critical condition’ police said.
Tesha Florence, 46, is reported to have called 911 Wednesday morning, saying that she shot her son. The shooting happened at around 8:15 a.m. at Claremont Apartments near Harry and Webb according to the Wichita Police Department.
First responders rushed to the scene and found the 16-year-old victim inside an apartment. The boy had been shot once.
Previous threat of gun violence
Records showed the mother being booked on two counts of aggravated assault and one count of aggravated battery. Florence was being held without bond Thursday morning, 12 News reported.
During their investigation, detectives learned of a previously unreported incident in March where the woman allegedly threatened an ex-husband and his current girlfriend with a gun.
Police say the current booking charges are for both incidents.
Police did not say what prompted the shooting, but said they found a gun at the scene. Investigators believe this was not a random act but rather a domestic dispute between the mother & son, police said according to a release.
‘Investigators continue to gather information related to this tragic situation,’ Captain Aaron Moses of the Wichita Police Dept said according to KSN.
He said police will present the case to the Sedgwick County District Attorney’s office to determine if further charges will be applied.
Florence remains held without bond at Sedgwick County Jail.
