Kuwaiti woman arrested failing to help suicidal maid: A woman has been detained after an Ethiopian maid sought to kill herself and refused to help, instead filming the episode and posting it on social media.
Kuwaiti police have detained a woman after she filmed the family maid, an Ethiopian woman, pleading for her life as she hung out of a window in a suicide attempt.
Despite the maid’s desperate cries for help, the Kuwaiti woman stood her ground, instead choosing to film the maid pleading for her life before she is seen falling seven flights below, miraculously surviving after having fallen on an awning as opposed to the street. pavement.
But it gets better. The Kuwaiti woman reported the al-Seyassah newspaper in turn posted the harrowing incident on social media.

The 12-second video shows the Ethiopian maid hanging outside the building, with one hand tightly gripping the window frame, as she begs for help in an apparent last-minute change of mind.
The woman holding the camera is heard telling the hanging maid: ‘Oh, crazy, come back.’
The terrified maid is seen screaming ‘hold me, hold me’, just before her hand slips and she falls down to hit the awning, which appears to soften the impact.
The employer made no reaction as she continued filming.
Paramedics were able to rescue the maid, her fall being broken after falling onto an awning below as opposed to the pavement. Upon taken to hospital, the maid was found to have suffered nose and ear bleeding and a broken arm.
A subsequent criminal investigation led to prosecutors demanding why the Kuwaiti woman failed to help the victim.
The reasons for the maid’s attempted suicide were not revealed.
A report via middleeastmonitor told of the Ethiopian maid having resigned from her job and was being tortured as a result, locked in a room and refused food for two days before she decided to take her own life.
The Kuwait Society for Human Rights on Friday called on the authorities to investigate the case and refer it to court.
The oil-rich Gulf state is home to more than 600,000 domestic helpers, a majority of them Asians, many of whom complain of abuse, mistreatment and non-payment of wages. Up to two thirds of Kuwait’s population is comprised of migrant workers,
Hundreds of maids escape their employers every year over abuse, and the government has set up shelters for them. Some seek help from their embassies.
Although Kuwait passed a law in 2015 that gave domestic workers more rights as employees – including paid annual leave and the right to a weekly day off – protections are still weaker than those which safeguard other professions reports rt.
Those who employ maids and other staff in their homes are not subject to enforcement mechanisms such as inspections of working conditions. Thus, many domestic workers still complain of abuse, mistreatment, and non-payment of wages.
At present it is not necessarily understood if authorities will seek to press charges against the Kuwaiti woman.
