It’s become a kind of status symbol (which was what I call good marketing) to get to appear as one of the models or the photographer who shoots the Pirelli calendar girls. Pirelli girls in essence have become synonymous with gorgeous cover models, or the anticipated Sports Illustrated cover girl, and whether you are into naked cover girls or not (you can count me as an ardent supporter) the release of such calendars these days has become a kind of benchmark for what the fashion world has deemed aesthetic, exotic and worthy of your languorous contemplation, and ultimately your dollars, but at least with a type of elegant salesmanship….
Being asked to shoot the tribe which included the following 12 women (Kate Moss, Milla Jovovich, Lara Stone, Isabeli Fontana, Natasha Poly, Saskia de Brauw, Joan Smalls, Guinevere Van Seenus, Malgosia, Edita Vilkevicute, Margareth Made and Rinko Kikuchi) was the fortunate Mario Sorrenti who by now has become a pro at this type of stuff. Past years photographers have included Terry Richardson and Karl Lagerfeld.
According to Women’s wear daily, Sorrenti would “spend the morning with one girl and the evening with another,” Women’s Wear Daily reports, before everyone had dinner together. Hmm, anyone looking to hire a copyboy next year?
That said relax, grab yourself a beverage of your choice and imagine that you too are somewhere at an exotic (this year it was Sardinia, Italy) locale, casually strutting as the camera man takes that perfect picture of you, or you the passing onlooker marveling at the delicacy of the human form. Amazing what a good photo shoot will do to one’s appetite…
