Parents give 7 year old daughter plastic surgery to ward off school bullying

In a world where deranged parents are tattooing makeup on their children, and encouraging the idea of breast implants and advanced maturity at a startling young age; some parents, are forced to make a dubious decision— putting their child under the knife, for what they call, preventative measures of bullying.

Note, preventative measures for bullying used to be called ‘teaching your child to suck it up, because kids are assholes.’

HuffPo: “Good Morning America” continued its exploration of all-things-plastic-surgery on Thursday, interviewing seven-year-old Samantha Shaw, a first grader from South Dakota who recently went under the knife to pin back her cup ears and fix a fold on her right ear.

Not for an actual physical deformity, per se, but for the impending repercussions of exaggerated features unique to Samantha. Features, that if not remedied, her parents worried, could become potentially torturous as Samantha got older.

According to her mother, others have made comments in front of Samantha — with adults being worse than other kids

But one has to wonder; didn’t Samantha’s parents realize that someday, the young girl would probably grow into her oversized ears? Doesn’t it seem a bit suspect that her mother seems so concerned with the parent’s comments, and makes no mention of how Samantha felt as a result?

Subjecting your child to facial reconstruction at such a young age may increase her chances of psychological effects, especially self-confidence issues, in the future, especially if the surgery was the parents’ choice. Did the Shaws’ think of that?

It’s hard to imagine that potentially lifelong, deep-seeded issues are worth the pain of a few handfuls of Dumbo jokes made by snot-nosed kids on the playground.

  1. Makes me sick really. In this example this young girls mom was the most cruel bully around. What a shame to bully your own kid with the use of someone else. How can a mom stand up for her daughter when she is acting out of fear for her own small ego?

  2. I am a parent and after reading this issue I stopped for a while and think. Did the parents realized if what would be the effect for the thing that they have done? Putting their kids under the knife is definitely not the answer to ward off from bullying. I would like to share the thing that I did to my daughter in order for her not to be victimized and suffered from bullying. A lot of simple way and alternatives that can be used for the kids not to suffer. I registered her to SafeKidZone for her protection. It has a mobile security application that enables my daughter to summon help from trusted people and with access to the nearest 911 when safety issue arise. This is how I protect my child check out: http://safekidzone.com/

  3. Parents don’t realize you are with your child only a few hours a day and kids are with their peers 9+ hours/day. You think your 1-2 hours max of positive reinforcement will OVERWHELM 9+ hours of critical negative comments that children can sling their way? If you think so, you are delusional.

  4. As Kitty says, kids have been having this procedure done for decades, and it seems sensationalist to use this as an example of “the latest trend in pediatric cosmetic surgery”. Similar to Kitty, I wouldn’t place this in the same category as breast implantation! There’s a difference between ‘normalizing’ surgery and ‘augmentation’ surgery.

Would you say the same about using plastic surgery to fix a cleft lip? A webbed toe? Removing an extra digit? A vestigial tail?

And lastly – dis you ever have any of these congenital features as a child? If you did, and are living a happy, successful and well adjusted life with your untreated cleft lip then you have my respect and I retract my comment!

  5. IF YOU TEACH YOUR CHILD TO BE HAPPY WITH WHO THEY ARE, NO BULLY WILL EFFECT YOUR CHILD! PARENTS TODAY R SO REDICULOUS AND SAD! MY MOM TAUGHT ME TO DEFEND MYSELF AND HOW TO STOP A BULLY! BULLY’S TRIED TO TEASE ME BUT I DEFENDED MYSELF SO THEY STOPPED! TEACH YOUR KIDS TO HAVE A BACKBONE & BOOST THEIR SELF ESTEEM INSTEAD OF HELPING THE BULLY’S BY ALTERING YOU CHILD’S PHYSICAL APPEARANCE & TEACHING YOUR CHILD THAT ITS OK TO RUN AND CHANGE WHO U ARE VERSUS STANDING STRONG & TELLING THOSE WHO DISAPPROVE TO GO FUCK THEMSELVES! NOT IN THOSE EXACT WORDS BUT U CATCH MY DRIFT!

  6. Moreover, my best friend didn’t have the op and suffered YEARS of teasing. I would advise to withhold judgment if you’ve never experienced the extremely damaging effect, not to mention unhappy childhood, that ensues from something like that.

  7. My mother had all three of us under the knife to have our ears pinned back in 1982. Best thing she could have ever done. It is no way in the same category as breast implants!
