‘We’ll have to see about that…’
seattlepi: The man pulled up in a blue Taurus station wagon and said his name was John. He told the 24-year-old working Aurora Avenue North that he wanted to take her to his Tacoma home, tie her to the bedposts and use a sex toy, police say investigators say the woman agreed, as long as the man didn’t tie her too tightly.
But little did she fully realize what she was agreeing to? Never mind why in the first place.
But as she drove with him, something seemed off.
The young woman said she wanted to stop for cigarettes, and when the man let her out at the 76 station a few blocks away, she texted his license plate to her boyfriend, according to court documents.
Call the cops if you don’t hear from me by midnight, her message said.
That ought to have placated the boyfriend you wonder? And now for the adventure…
Hours later at what prosecutors describe as the man’s torture room – one with walls roughly 8-inches thick to allegedly muffle screams – she asked if he was going to kill her.
“We’ll see,” he allegedly replied.
Police say the man gave her so many electric shocks she could no longer scream. She told a detective she was put naked on a table bolted to a floor and had a locked chain around her neck. The man allegedly plucked her hairs, told her he was her master, pumped liquid into her bladder, and beat her with a paddle, according to court documents.
The woman told police she thought the torture lasted for eight hours.
Eight hours? Plucked her hairs and locked a chain around her neck? Is this the diabolical thrill one is looking for when randomly stopped by a complete stranger on the street? But then again, one has to wonder if the thrill of danger enticed the young woman to carry on- after all even she had a premonition things were going to be hairy…
When she couldn’t bear the pain – and thought she would be buried the man’s yard – the woman told her alleged attacker about the text message to her boyfriend, police say. The man allegedly didn’t believe her, so she told him to check her phone.
Once the man realized she did text his license-plate number, investigators say he immediately became very nice, untied her and gave the woman her clothes back. He asked where she wanted to go.
And then a sudden change of heart…or so it seems.
“He was very concerned about her going to the police,” Detective Harry James wrote in a probable cause document. She was given $200 – double what he said he’d pay – and told her the police didn’t need to be involved, James wrote. “He told her that he really didn’t hurt her that bad and it was all just a game.”
Just part of the game? When was the last time you played a game like this?
On Tuesday, John Joseph Hauff, Jr., 66, was charged with kidnapping, raping and assaulting the woman. He’s being held in King County Jail without bail.
So much for exotic experiences in the middle of the afternoon…
