Sir Harold Evans.

From there we all proceeded for drinks in a room adjacent to the annex room where one could view a letter once written by Queen Elizabeth the First essentially telling the French King and his brothers to ‘screw their marriage proposal but in very delightful terms (it was all there in French). Also on view was first edition Shakespeare folios. After cocktails were served, guests proceeded downstairs were they were offered dinner, and dancing courtesy of the Starlight Orchestra and a few rousing speeches which I unfortunately did not get to hear because by now I was drinking my own Earl Grey tea and contemplating how it came to be that the English have such crooked teeth. All in all, it was a delightful affair…kudos to you Mr Shannon and I look forward to receiving your concern once again soon enough.

Some notes of interest:

The St. George’s Society (http://www.stgeorgessociety.org) has been in operation since 1770. The English Ball is a charitable fundraiser that enables the St. George’s Society to continue its Beneficiary program and Scholarship programs. The Beneficiary program provides monthly stipends to the elderly, handicapped, or people in crisis of British or Commonwealth origins in the New York area. The Scholarship program provides vital scholarships to students of British and Commonwealth heritage who are enrolled at Lehman College, part of CUNY in the Bronx.
