Robert Davidson Maryland father pleads guilty to sexual abuse and child abuse of his ten week old daughter Aleah Thompson. How did two parents fail their daughter?
Causing disconcert is news of baby Aleah Thompson who would eventually die at the hands of her father, 24 year old Rockville, Maryland man, Robert Davidson after the man admitted to sexually abusing and then killing the 10 week baby girl.
Appearing in court, Davidson pled guilty to sexually abusing and killing his baby daughter in relation to baby Aleah’s June 2015 death.
The guilty plea came after Robert Alan Davidson was charged with sex abuse of a minor and first degree child abuse resulting in the child’s violent death.
A death which an autopsy told was precipitated with baby Aleah Thompson incurring severe trauma, a broken collarbone and 34 rib fractures. Injuries that Montgomery County Assistant State’s Attorney Mary Herdman told happened on at least three different occasions.
Aleah had injuries to her head, eyes and spine. A forensic anthropologists concluded that the abuse started during the first two weeks of the baby’s life, and the last of the incidents took place just before her death.
According to court documents, on the evening of baby Aleah’s death, the father called 911 from the apartment he lived in with along with the child’s mother, Lorena Thompson to report that his daughter wasn’t breathing.
At the time, the 22 year old mother was at work and upon returning home attempted to perform CPR on their unresponsive daughter. Despite her attempts, the woman’s efforts reports the washingtonpost were futile.
Three days later their child would die at a hospital.
Aleah’s parents were arrested in late August 2015, nearly two months after the baby’s death, where the father was charged with charged with second-degree murder, first-degree child abuse resulting in death, first-degree child abuse resulting in severe physical injury, neglect of a minor, sexual abuse of a minor, and second-degree sex offense.
During trial proceedings, prosecutors alleged allege that Davidson told police he was playing video games in the living room when he heard noises coming from Aleah’s bedroom.
Davidson found Aleah unconscious and said that he dropped her several times, including a time she rolled off the couch.
Thompson was charged with neglect of a minor in the case and prosecutors suspect she took no action when she noticed her daughter’s bruises, possibly caused by Davidson. Why the mother declined to take action is yet to be necessarily understood.
The mother pleaded guilty to neglect of a minor in July and was sentenced to five years of probation.
Thompson, who is a chef by trade, also has a 5-year-old son from a previous relationship. That child notes a report via patch is in the custody of the father.
Of note, a day after baby Aleah died, the washingtonpost reported Lorena Thompson posted a tribute to her daughter in a one-minute video showing 20 photographs of the child, including photos taken just after birth.
Reads one caption in part: ‘I love you Aleah. I will miss you so much. Feels like I’ve died again inside. 4/16/15 – 6/26/15. RIP. my lady bug my heart beat.’
During trial proceedings, Davidson’s defense attorney, Ronald Gottlieb, disputed allegations that his client sexually abused Aleah by saying he was only ‘trying to remove mucus and other substances’ from his daughter.
Told the lawyer: ‘He never admitted to doing it for a sexual gratification, but the actual act itself he has admitted to.’
Upon agreeing to a plea deal, prosecutors agreed to drop the second-degree murder count against Davidson.
Robert Davidson faces up to the 50 years in jail upon his sentencing.
