Grisly images have released showing ISIS fighters throwing men to their deaths for being gay and purported sodomy before then stoning him to death.
In one image, a group of armed, masked men are seen on top of one building with the victim who will be imminently flung to his death after being condemned by an Islamic court. The decree would demand that the condemned man be thrown from the highest point in the city for being gay.
In a statement which accompanied the images, ISIS said ‘the Islamic court in Wilayet al-Furat [which refers to an area which crosses the frontier between Syria and Iraq] decided that a man who has practised sodomy must be thrown off the highest point in the city.’
Following images then show the man moments before he lands on the ground after being hurled from the rooftop.
Although not verified the images are believed to have shot in northern Iraq tells a report via the UK’s mirror.
Another image shows the deceased’s body on the ground surrounded by what look like bricks – possibly used for the stoning.
On one occasion a man aged 20 was stoned to death in Syria last month after ISIS claimed they found homosexual images on his phone, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) said.
That said, gaystarnews reports that activists on social media said two men executed for purportedly being gay were opponents of ISIS and homosexuality was just a pretext for their murder. Nevertheless gay rights groups continue to fear their cause as ISIS strongholds continue.
Interestingly the emergence of said images on a jihadist website follows disturbing revelations of torture used by the CIA on detainees during the War on Terror.
At present it is not necessarily understood if the release of the images were meant to coincide with the CIA’s report or not. That said ISIS have made regular use of social media in efforts to wage a propaganda war.
