It seems being objectified as a piece of ass has become this year’s crying mantra for the 2012 London Olympics. Rather than focusing on the feats of the athletes themselves there seems to have been a heavy predisposition to the idealization of the human form. That in itself might be fine (who isn’t entranced by the human form?), but what happens when implicit in the idealization is the notion that a man or a woman is only worthwhile as long as they approximate some physical standard, as is often the case for most women in a society that tells women that they are valuable as long as they look a certain way.
