Despite the existence of a 1,000 pound man in America, and the fact that a tobacco commercial can be seen on any channel, the American Cancer Society (ACS) has actually seen a decline in death rate thanks to early detection, better treatments, and smoking cessation. Which has got us wondering which type of cancers are the main killers and who exactly has a greater chance of succumbing to cancer?
Source: WebMD: An ACS report show that the death toll for male cancer patients has decreased by two percent from 2001-2006; and has decreased in females by 1.5% from 2002-2006.
Come on now ladies, let’s up the ante and surpass the men next time.
In 2010 alone, 52% of men that are diagnosed with cancer will suffer from either colorectal, lung or prostate, three most fatal cancers among men. The ACS also estimates that 52% of female cancer patients will be diagnosed with lung, colorectal or breast cancer.
Women please remember to check for lumps in your breast by giving yourself a breast exam every year. And to both men and women: STOP SMOKING!
The ACS report also show that this year there will be 1.5 new cancer cases and 569, 490 deaths. Remember to get active, eat right, and throw away those damn cigarettes.
