Canoga Park murder-suicide: dad shoots & kills 10-year-old twins then self. Tragedy happened at San Fernando Valley apartment complex during a family gathering. Mom survived shooting after dad aiming but missing at her when she went to investigate sounds of gunfire. 

A California father is alleged to have shot and killed his 10-year-old twin sons then self at Canoga Park home on Sunday evening.

Officers with the Los Angeles Police Department, responded to reports of a shooting at an apartment complex located on the 8000 block of Owensmouth Avenue in the San Fernando Valley neighborhood. Upon arrival, they discovered a man believed to be in his mid-40s and his two young sons dead from apparent gunshot wounds.

Investigators believe the father fatally shot the twin boys before turning the gun on himself in an apparent murder-suicide. Authorities have not yet publicly identified the victims. 

Canoga Park dad kills kids & self during mom’s birthday party

Police said the children’s mother was also inside the home when the shooting occurred. She told investigators she heard gunfire and went to a bedroom to investigate, KTLA5 reported.

According to preliminary information, the father then allegedly fired a shot at her, but missed. Moments later, he is believed to have shot himself.

The mother was not physically injured, though investigators said she witnessed part of the tragic incident

The Canoga Park shootings allegedly happened during a family gathering for the children’s mother’s birthday party.

No known motive

Authorities to date have not released a motive for the shootings. Detectives are examining the circumstances leading up to the deaths, including possible family, financial, mental health, or domestic issues that may have contributed to the tragedy.

Authorities continue to investigate. Canoga Park is about 25 minutes outside of Los Angeles.
