Brooke Anderson, Florida science teacher student victim sues educator and Riverview school board for sexually preying on teen victim and for failing to stop exploitation.

Define abuse, trust and power? A Florida biology teacher convicted of sexually abusing a high school student is being sued by the victim — who claims he gave up his faith in God following the exploitation he ‘suffered’ at the hands of his teacher.

Brooke Anderson, 28, is reported to have sexually victimized her teen victim soon after she began grooming the teen in 2021, the suit alleges.

The Rhode Island native and Riverview, Florida high school teacher was hit with the lawsuit while two months into a 30-month prison sentence after Anderson was convicted on sex crime charges against the student last June, the Daily Mail reported

The lawsuit states that Anderson’s relationship with the teen began innocently enough. He would eat lunch in his science teacher’s classroom during his first two years at Riverview High School in Tampa.

But as the student began his junior year, Anderson began to text the boy messages of a ‘very graphic, sexual nature,’ a trend that escalated into the boy’s senior year, according to the civil complaint.

Anderson then allegedly sent the boy ‘sexually provocative’ images in September 2024 before sexually abusing him in her classroom in the months ahead, leading to her May, 2025 arrest according to the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office

‘This teacher betrayed the trust of a student, a school, and an entire community,’ said Sheriff Chad Chronister. ‘What should have been a safe, supportive environment for learning was exploited for abuse. Her actions are criminal, calculated, and deeply disturbing.’

Abuse of trust, authority and power

The female educator pleaded guilty to a bevy of criminal charges, including three counts of unlawful sexual activity.

The boy was a year under Florida’s age of consent when Anderson sexually abused him, according to the suit cited by the Tampa Bay Times.

The suit alleges that Anderson’s ‘heinous sex acts’ left the victim with ‘permanent psychological injuries,’ including a loss in his faith in God.

The abused teen seeks $100,000 in damages from Anderson, a college graduate who grew up in a $1.2 million Rhode Island mansion.

The former student claims that Anderson’s guilty plea strengthens his case against his former teacher, according to the suit.

The suit also seeks $50,000 from the Hillsborough County School Board for failing to prevent the abuse, arguing that the school board could have done more to prevent the scenario. The suit alleges commercial negligence in allowing the sexual predator to work at the school.

Offered lead counsel for the victim, ‘This case is about accountability and the fundamental obligation of a school system to protect the children entrusted to its care.’
