Kaori Patterson-Moore id as 7-month old baby girl killed by stray bullet by moped riding duo as Amari Green now faces murder charge as NYPD seek to arrest second man following East Williamsburg, Brooklyn tragedy.
The NYPD is seeking to arrest a second man involved in a Wednesday incident which involved a 7-month old baby girl dying after she was hit by a stray bullet as a duo riding a moped fired off shots in what is thought to be gang related violence.
Kaori Patterson-Moore, was struck by a stray bullet as she was being pushed by her mother at the intersection of Humboldt and Moore in East Williamsburg just on 1.20 p.m, Wednesday afternoon.
Kaori’s mother grieves loss of 7-month old baby daughter
At the time of the shooting, two men on a moped were driving against traffic when the passenger drew a gun and fired at least two rounds toward a sidewalk crowded with adults and children. One of the bullets struck the 7-month old in the head.
Despite her Brooklyn father running to nearby WoodHull hospital in a bid to save his daughter’s life, the little girl did not survive her injuries and was pronounced dead.
‘I can’t get her back. She’s gone, and I can’t ever see her again,’ stated Kaori’s mother, Lianna Charles-Moore. ‘I can’t smell her, can’t kiss her. I can’t wake up and feed her her bottle. I can’t dress her. Everything I wanted to do with her, I can’t do with her anymore.’
After firing off shots, the moped continued northbound before crashing into a car, throwing both men from the scooter. The rear passenger hit the pavement so hard that he lost his shoes according to local reports.
EMS workers responding to that crash took the rear passenger to a hospital. Police said he was in custody on an unrelated case and investigators are working to determine his involvement in the shooting. Captured surveillance footage suggested the rear passenger firing the shots.
Gang related gun violence claims innocent girl’s life
Come Thursday, NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch identified 21-year-old man, Amari Green as the person who fired the gun. Green who is currently in hospital will be charged with murder and two counts of attempted murder.
Captured surveillance video was now being used to help the NYPD identity the second suspect with a massive manhunt underway. Police have also identified the driver of the scooter, but say they aren’t releasing his name yet.
Officials said investigators believe the shooting was gang-motivated and that the child was not the intended target. Police have not recovered a weapon.
Citywide, shootings this year track close to 2025 levels, which officials called a record-low year for gun violence, though experts say incidents tend to rise as the weather warms.
