A 7-month old baby was killed in a shooting in Brooklyn on Wednesday after an unidentified man sitting on the back of a scooter fired at a woman pushing her pram.

At the time of the shooting, the baby was being pushed in a stroller at Moore and Humboldt streets in East Williamsburg just on 1:15 p.m., when she suffered a gunshot wound to the head according to the NYPD.

After hearing the shots, the child’s mother ducked into a nearby bodega, where she noticed the little girl bleeding. Her father then ran the child to Woodhull Hospital, where she was pronounced dead, police said.

‘I thought it was fireworks, but then they hit me on my leg. I got metal pieces in my leg,’ a witness told media. ‘The family went to the store and the mom started screaming. The baby looked lifeless the father picked up the baby and ran to the hospital.’

The NYPD is currently looking for two men who were riding a scooter near the scene and fled up Humboldt. The driver was said to have dreadlocks and was wearing a light-colored sweatshirt. His passenger was wearing a dark-colored sweatshirt.

One individual was spotted firing shots from the back of the moped as another person operated the vehicle. The moped was found ditched several blocks away a short time later.

The circumstances leading up to the shooting are unknown and under investigation. How or why the baby girl came to be shot remained unclear.

‘My heart is heavy today after a baby’s life was stolen by this senseless act of gun violence in Brooklyn. I’m praying for this child’s family and loved ones. May they rest in peace. We must keep working to end gun violence,’ New York Attorney General Letitia James wrote on X.
