Austin Valentine’s day murder-suicide leads to couple’s deaths

Samuel Rios, Austin, Texas man stabs girlfriend, Megan Page Montgomery to death then self in Valentine’s Day murder-suicide as officials investigate domestic violence tragedy. 

A Texas man in South Austin is alleged to have killed a woman before taking his own life inside a home on the 6700 block of Windrift Way.

Officers responded to the residence for a welfare check at 11.29 a.m., Saturday, February 14th, Valentine’s Day after a report that Megan Montgomery, 39, hadn’t reported to work, according to a press release from the Austin Police Department.

Welfare check at Austin home leads to macabre discovery 

Upon entering the residence with a key obtained from family members, officers found Montgomery and Samuel Rios, a 47-year-old, of Austin, Texas man both deceased with apparent trauma to their bodies.

A preliminary investigation indicates Rios stabbed Montgomery before killing himself, Austin police said, calling the case Austin’s eighth homicide of 2026. Detectives are continuing to investigate the circumstances and motive but say there is no ongoing threat to the public.

The department hasn’t said if Montgomery and Rios knew each other and if so, in what capacity. Nevertheless social media indicated Rios and Montgomery being domestically involved in a toxic relationship.
