Not immediately clear is what led to the couple being targeted. According to police, Reyes had both a personal and a business relationship with the family. No motive was immediately known.
The couple, who went by Charlie N Jeanna Hayes on social media, owned the CW Hayes home improvement business. They were well respected within their local community, with news of their death sparking tributes online.
Police Chief Amal Awad said Long Point Community is quiet, with little to no crime, with waterfront homes, family homes, and cottages.
‘It’s just terribly horrific, especially right before the holiday season,’ Awad said. ‘This is a very close-knit community. You can see it by how they have already started decorating for the holidays.’
