Pregnant 19-year-old & newborn die in Phoenix crash after boyfriend runs red light

Leila Potts father, David wants boyfriend Lance Endicott charged in fatal Phoenix, Arizona crash that killed teen daughter, 19 and newborn baby, Vincent. Police continue to investigate tragedy. 

A pregnant 19-year-old & her newborn baby both died after a car crash in Arizona over Father’s Day weekend.

Leila Potts was riding in a car in Phoenix around 11:30 p.m. local time on Saturday, June 20, as driven by the father of the pregnant mom’s child, Potts’ boyfriend, when their vehicle ran a red light and collided with another car, AZFamily reported.

When officers from the Phoenix Police Department arrived to the scene near Loop 101 and 19th Avenue, they found Potts in critical condition.

Leila was rushed to a nearby hospital, where doctors delivered her baby, but both she and her son, Vincent, died a short time later.

David Potts, Leila’s father, confirmed that the man driving the car was the father of his daughter’s baby and Leila’s boyfriend. The baby boy was weeks away from being born the father said. 

‘Two lives cut short for something ridiculous and careless,’ the father wrote in a statement.

Potts’ boyfriend, was treated at a local hospital for non-life-threatening injuries, while the driver of the second vehicle involved in the crash — who was uninjured — stayed at the scene, KPNX reported.

Pregnant teen was weeks away from giving birth

FOX10, citing police, reported the vehicle entering the intersection after the traffic signal had been red for approximately 13 seconds before colliding with another vehicle.

Police said they do not believe impairment was a factor and have not indicated whether the boyfriend will face charges. 

While police declined to identify the boyfriend, social media identified the man as Lance Endicott.

David Potts, said his daughter was expecting her child in August. The parent added that Leila was excited to become a mother and was looking forward to meeting her baby boy.

Will Leila Potts boyfriend face charges? 

Stated Potts in a statement shared with AZFamily, ‘Leila was a bright, funny, beautiful person’ and was ‘full of life.’

‘We loved her more than you can imagine … She loved drawing, cats, and her friends. Her sense of style was unmatched, she always was the best dressed,’ David said. ‘This is so unfair and horrible.’

Stated a GoFundMe for the family: ‘The heartbreak and shock have left the family reeling, struggling to come to terms with the loss of both mother and child.

‘As David faces the unimaginable pain of losing his daughter and grandson, he is also confronted with the financial burden of funeral costs. The family is asking for help to cover the expenses needed to lay Leila and Vincent to rest, so they can focus on healing and honoring their memories.’

David Potts has since reiterated his demands to have his daughter’s boyfriend held accountable for his daghter’s death along with that of his grandson.

‘I could be mad at a stranger, but to know that somebody that I’ve taken in, and you know, as part of the family, would be so careless with my daughter and my grandchild and his own child, it hurts so much more,’ he told 12News.

The circumstances surrounding the crash remain under investigation.
