Mar-a-Lago cousin says 21-year-old was apolitical and afraid of guns

Offering clues as to the mindset of the gun wielding intruder (along with gas canister), was an interview conducted with Tucker Martin’s 19-year-old cousin, Braeden Fields, with the relative stating sharing a strong bond.

According to the Associated Press, Fields reacted with disbelief upon being notified of his cousin being involved at a home intrusion at Mar-a-Lago. He described Martin as quiet, afraid of guns, never discussing politics and coming from a family of avid Trump supporters.

‘He’s a good kid,’ Fields, 19, told AP, telling the outlet they grew up together. ‘I wouldn’t believe he would do something like this. It’s mind-blowing,’ Fields said.

He said Martin worked at a local golf course and would send money from each paycheck to charity.

‘He wouldn’t even hurt an ant. He doesn’t even know how to use a gun,’ Fields said. He said his cousin didn’t discuss politics. ‘We are big Trump supporters, all of us. Everybody,” Fields said, but his cousin was “real quiet, never really talked about anything.’

Of note, Martin’s North Carolina voter registration listed the 21-year-old as unaffiliated.

Sunday’s breach comes amid heightened political polarization in the U.S, just months after conservative commentator and political scion, Charlie Kirk was assassinated addressing university students in Utah. The assassination in turn led to widespread division between conservative supporters and liberals and the active pursuit of those individuals perceived to have responded to Kirk’s shooting death with ‘disrespect,’ along with claims of inappropriate hate speech.
