A second teenager has died after a sledding accident in Frisco, Texas over the weekend.
Grace ‘Gracie’ Brito, 16, had initially survived Sunday’s sledding accident after the cheerleader and her best pal, Elizabeth Angle, also 16, crashed into a tree after the sled that they were being pulled upon clipped a curb sending the two teens reeling.
Officers with the the Frisco Police Department had responded to a 2:26 p.m., 911 call regarding juveniles being involved in a sledding accident in the city, according to a previous news release.
Two best friends had come together to enjoy rare winter snow only for tragedy to strike
The two 16-year-old best friends had suffered life-threatening injuries while sledding with one of the girls, Angle dying shortly after being rushed to hospital on Sunday.
Elizabeth’s best friend, Gracie Brito had been on life support following the accident, but died on Tuesday, Jan. 27, her family confirmed according to KTVT.
Police previously confirmed that the two teenage girls had been riding on a sled being pulled by a 16-year-old male in a Jeep Wrangler when the sled struck a curb and slammed into a tree.
Offered Grace’s mother, Tracy Brito, in a statement, ‘We are a family of four – myself, my husband, Grace and Emma,’ noting that Emma is a freshman at Louisiana State University (LSU), according to KTVT.
‘Our family is heartbroken and devastated by the loss of our beautiful daughter, Gracie,’ she added.
Authorities continue investigating sledding tragedy
Tracy remembered her daughter as ‘a kind and generous soul, full of love, affection, and warmth,’ who had ‘gentle strength,’ the outlet stated.
She said that Grace had recently gotten her driver’s license, adding that her family was planning to honor Grace’s wishes after she’d proudly registered as an organ donor, KTVT reported.
Grace’s mom said her daughter, who was an All‑Star cheer competitor at Express Cheer in Frisco, ‘Valued teamwork, friendship, and encouragement. She took pride in lifting others up.’
An investigation into the crash is ongoing. Ryan Thomas, a spokesperson for the FPD, told The Dallas Morning News that the Denton County District Attorney’s Office will determine if criminal charges will be pursued against the driver of the Jeep
