Lorenza Inman Jr. habitual criminal offender charged with domestic violence murder of missing Charlotte, North Carolina mom, Frezja Baker whose body was discovered a week after her family reported her missing. Victim had been ‘dating’ suspect at time of slaying.
A North Carolina man with a history of repeat felony arrests and who had been in a ‘dating relationship’ with his female victim has been charged with the slaying of a 31-year-old Charlotte mother who was reported missing by her family last week after saying she would be home within the hour, only to never arrive.
Lorenza Thomas Inman Jr., 38, was arrested in the murder of 31-year-old Frezja Matisse Baker a day after she was found deceased behind a church in West Charlotte.
Victim was in ‘dating relationship’ with career criminal offender
Inman going by the name of Cantbetouched Nuna on social media was detained in Maxton, a town in Robeson and Scotland counties 100 miles southeast of Charlotte on Friday.
Upon his arrest, Inman was charged with murder, assault on a female and misdemeanor domestic violence, according to a Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department news release.
Baker was found unresponsive at 9:35 a.m. in the 2300 block of Sanders Avenue, according to CMPD. Sanders Avenue is off Brookshire Freeway.
The discovery was less than a mile away from where Baker was last seen on surveillance tape at a Quick N E-Z Food mart at a gas station along Sugar Creek Road, circa 10 p.m, Thursday, December 4. It is believed the woman was killed shortly after she was seen at the convenience store.
Baker and Inman were in ‘a dating relationship,’ according to an arrest warrant cited by the Charlotte Observer.
Repeat career criminal who managed to stay out of jail or do very short jail stints
A previous report stated that Baker was last seen in the company of Inman who her family had described as an ‘associate.’ Leading up to his arrest, the man had declined to assist the family in ‘locating the missing mother’ of a 2 year old boy along with resisting police overtures for statements.
Police to date declined to state the cause and manner of death.
Inman Jr.’s criminal history dates back nearly two decades, jail records show.
In Feb. 2019, a jury found Lorenza guilty of attempted first-degree murder, assault with a deadly weapon with the intent to kill inflicting serious injury and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. Lorenza was sentenced to 12-17 years in prison for the 2017 episode, WBTV reported.
At the time, Inman followed a man to a Charlotte shopping center, shot him in the chest, then fired several more times while standing over the victim, the district attorney’s office said in a February 2019 news release.
Jail records show Inman serving only two years before being paroled in 2021, only to go out and commit new crimes upon his release.
Repeat offender arrested for domestic violence in 2021
In 2021, Inman was arrested for assaulting a woman and was given a two-year suspended sentence and ordered to attend a domestic violence intervention program.
Inman Jr. most recently pleaded guilty in October to habitual misdemeanor assault and intimidating a witness. The judge suspended an 11-23 month prison sentence pending successful completion of 24 months of supervised probation, the district attorney’s office said.
Lorenza currently remains held with no bond at Mecklenburg County Jail.
He is scheduled to have his first court appearance Monday.
CMPD said the investigation into this incident is active and ongoing. Anyone with information is asked to call 704-432-8477 (TIPS) and speak directly to a homicide unit detective.
