Student killed in KSU shooting id as 19 year old Indianapolis resident

De’Jon Darrell Fox, Jr. Indianapolis 19 year old identified as student shot and killed on campus at Kentucky State University (KSU) shooting at hands of , Jacob Lee Bard of Evansville, Indiana. Second student also shot remained in critical condition. 

The name of the individual shot and killed on campus at Kentucky State University campus on Tuesday has been identified as that of a 19-year-old sophomore student.

Active aggressor at KSU campus

Franklin County Coroner William C. Harrod said Fox died at Frankfort Regional Medical Center at 4:33 p.m of a gunshot wound, FOX8 reported.

The shooting happened in the area of south campus near Whitney M. Young Jr. Hall, a residence hall on the south side of campus WHAS11 reported.

The Frankfort Police Department said they responded to the report of an ‘active aggressor’ on campus around 3:10 p.m. Tuesday.

Leading up to the shooting, Bard’s arrest citation showed he was in a ‘physical altercation’ on campus, and shot the students during the incident.

Jacob Bard is to be arraigned Thursday morning, 10 a.m, where he will be formally charged with murder and assault.

Authorities had yet to say what led to Bard, who was not affiliated with the college targeting his two victims.

No known motive

Authorities didn’t divulge the gunman’s relationship to the victims, why he was on campus, or what may have transpired leading up to the shooting, which took place about 175 miles from Evansville.

The incident unfolded as students were going to class. Campus was quickly put on lockdown following the incident.

Hours after the shooting, Kentucky State University President Koffi Akakpo called the violence senseless.

‘We are mourning at the loss of one of our students. As a parent, I cannot imagine receiving today,’ Akakpo said.

KSU said they were suspending all classes, final exams, and campus activities for the remainder of the week due to the shooting.

KSU said counseling and support services will be available for any impacted students, faculty, and staff, and anyone in need of help is encouraged to contact the university’s counseling services.

Nearly 2,200 students attend the southern school and roughly 450 faculty and staff members work there. Final exams started on Monday, according to the university’s website.
