Seattle mom beats 14 year old son to death, to the point of losing consciousness, waiting 5 minutes before calling 911. Mom said she punished boy with electric cord for failing to do his chores.
A Seattle mother is accused of beating her 14-year-old son to death after becoming angry with the teen for failing to do his chores.
Police say the 29-year-old un-named suspect called 911 around 2:15 p.m. Thursday from the family’s home and reported her 14-year-old son unresponsive after having ‘spanked him’ with an extension cord. The teenager was taken to the hospital, where he died.
‘[Mother] stated she was spanking him with an extension cord, and it went too far,’ according to a police report.
Seattle mom ‘accidentally’ beats teen boy to the point of losing consciousness
‘[Mother] stated that [son] did not complete his chores, and she was angry. [Mother] told him it was ‘butt cutting time.’ [Mother] ordered [son] to remove his clothing and used an extension cord to strike him.’
The boy’s mother upon her arrest was booked into jail for murder. Police allege the parent ‘mercilessly beating’ the 14-year-old teen for an hour after he didn’t complete his chores.
A police report alleges the suspect telling investigators at one point, shoving her son against the wall, and striking his head, before the boy going limp and falling to the floor. The mom claimed waiting five minutes before calling 911, KOMO News reported.
‘[Mother] continued to beat [son] while he was on the floor,’ the police report stated. ‘[Mother] ordered [son] to stand, which he complied. [Mother] continued to beat [son] for approximately an hour.’
The mother told cops she stopped the beating when her son became unresponsive, according to a press briefing by the Seattle Police Department.
‘This assault happened over an hour on a 14-year-old child, extension cords, struck his head, lost consciousness as she continued beating him and then failed to call for emergency services,’ said Christopher Anderson with the King County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office.

Suspect’s lawyer argued jail would lead to additional trauma
The suspect refused to appear in court for a bail hearing Friday afternoon during which her public defender, Zelena Jones, argued for her release from custody.
Jones said the mother is in grief at the loss of the son, the very boy she is accused of taking his life.
‘I know of the seriousness of these facts, but this also involves a mother losing her son and significant trauma she is experiencing from that. I’d also argue there would be additional trauma on top of that if she is incarcerated,’ the defence lawyer told the court.
Adding, ‘I’d also argue there would be additional trauma on top of that if she is incarcerated. Given her limited history, the fact it appears she cooperated with law enforcement, and the fact that she has very limited resources, she should be released.’
The woman was not publicly named as of Monday because she had not yet been formally charged. Her son is only referred to as “J.R.” in the police report.
The judge sided with prosecutors who asked for a bail of $3 million. Prosecutors say they expect the suspect will be charged in the case by Tuesday.
