Gary Oxendine, North Carolina man denies his girlfriend, Robin Deaton was trying to kill him when she locked him up in storage facility for 4 days with no food or water. Or was she?

‘This is what you get!’ A North Carolina woman faces felony charges after allegedly trapping her boyfriend in a locked storage container unit for four days without food or water.

Robin Deaton is alleged to have locked the hapless man, since identified as Gary Oxendine, in the storage facility in complete darkness before the man managing to escape by the 4th day after managing to find his phone and call 911.

During the 911 call the un-identified victim called police to say,I’ve been locked inside a storage unit for about a week now, and I just now found my phone.’

Boyfriend says lock up allegations against girlfriend are ‘bogus claims’

Deaton, 52, was arrested on February 27 and charged with attempted murder and kidnapping after luring the un-identified boyfriend into a Cooper Storage unit in Monroe, a city around 25 miles southeast of Charlotte, on Feb. 20.

According to a Facebook release from the the Monroe Police Department, the man was having an argument with Deaton while they were at the storage unit and she asked him to get something from inside. While he was inside, she allegedly said, ‘This is what you get!’ before slamming the door closed and locking him in for the next four days before the victim making his eventual escape.

Monroe Police Lt. Morgan Malone said that the man was treated at the hospital for dehydration and was released. Malone explained that it may have taken the man so long to find his phone because not only was he in total darkness inside the unit, but because the unit was packed to the brim.

‘The storage unit was described to me as being a hoarder’s paradise. As soon as the officers opened up the door, things started falling out. The further they opened it, more stuff fell out,’ Malone said according to WBTV.

Of note, the outlet reported that the man had no cell service inside the unit, only the ability to dial 911. This would have meant that he wouldn’t have been able to receive calls or notifications that would have caused his phone to light up.

After the man was rescued, police got a warrant for Deaton’s arrest on charges of attempted murder and kidnapping. She was arrested on Feb. 27 and booked into the Mecklenburg County Detention Center, where she is being held without bond.

Speaking to WSOC, Oxendine insisted the whole episode was a misunderstanding and that his girlfriend had never intended to lock him up on purpose or kill him. Or did she?

Reiterated the boyfriend, ‘They need to get their stuff right. It’s just a bunch of bogus charges.’

Police have nevertheless determined that Deaton had indeed intended to lock the man up.
