Leticia Rodriguez, Marietta, Georgia teen girl arrested trying to bury her dead newborn in backyard as an autopsy is to discover whether the baby boy was born alive at the time of his birth.

A 17-year-old Georgia teen girl was arrested over the weekend after a family member caught her digging a hole in the backyard to bury the body of her ‘mutilated’ newborn baby son.

Leticia Rodriguez of Marietta is alleged to have wrapped the ‘deceased’ infant in a blanket and then put the body into a grocery bag, concealing the child’s death for about 6 hours after the birth in her bedroom, Sunday morning, WAGA reported.

‘The uncle is the one who made the discovery of her digging in the backyard and contacted authorities for assistance,’ said Marietta Police Public Information Officer Chuck McPhilamy.

Did teen mom kill her baby before trying to bury newborn’s body?

‘We did see the mother of the deceased infant digging a hole in the backyard in an attempt to create that situation,’ McPhilamy said, according to Atlanta News First. ‘The infant was never actually buried.’

According to an arrest warrant, Rodriguez is alleged to have ‘abused’ the baby boy’s body with a pocket knife.

Rodriguez was taken to Wellstar Kennestone Hospital for treatment according to WANF.

‘The trauma of childbirth, she needed medical attention. She’s now at the hospital receiving that,’ said McPhilamy.

Rodriguez will be booked on charges of concealing a death, throwing away or abandonment of dead body, and abuse of dead body when she is released. She will be held without bond, WAGA reported.

‘The medical examiner has the deceased infant, and it will be up to them to determine was this infant born alive or not, was the infant viable or not, what is the exact age and what is the cause of death,’ McPhilamy said, according to WANF.

Additional charges could be pending given the outcome of an autopsy on the newborn.
