Shane Curry, Stow, Mass man has charges upgraded to murder after stabbing girlfriend, Nevaeh Goddard to death, who he called his twin flame after her body was found during a welfare check earlier this year in the man’s bedroom.
A 20-year-old man Massachusetts man allegedly murdered his 17-year-old girlfriend – he called his ‘twin flame’ – with a sword before curling up to her as the bloodied teen lay dying.
Shane Curry was charged with first degree murder in the killing of Nevaeh Goddard in April. On Friday, Marian Ryan Middlesex District Attorney and Stowe Police Chief Michael Sallese announced the suspect’s upgraded charges.
On April 5, Curry’s mother went to the Stow Police Department requesting a welfare check at a home that her son was sharing with Goddard, as per an indictment People reported.
‘He promised to take care of her.’
When officers arrived they made the macabre discovery and found the young woman with multiple stab wounds. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
According to the DA’s office, Curry fatally stabbed Goddard when the couple were having a physical altercation before he used the deadly weapon to stab her to death.
In April at his arraignment, Curry was initially charged with assault and battery on a household or family member and assault and battery with a dangerous weapon causing serious bodily injury.
Those charges were later updated to murder. He is currently being held without bail, according to the DA’s office.
‘I spoke to the boyfriend,’ Goddard’s grandfather, Michael Simmons previously told WJAR. ‘He promised to take care of her.’
On the day police arrived at his home, Curry had locked himself in the bedroom and would not open the door.
Victim was born in jail and had survived child abuse
Stowe Police Chief Sallese who had known Curry as he assisted him during a mental health episode previously tried to speak with him, the indictment alleges.
Sallese made several attempts to get into the room by banging on the door according to WFXT.
Curry reportedly opened the door just enough to tell Sallese to ‘Get the f**k out, you creeps,’ as per the document alleged.
When Sallese gained entry the couple were lying on a mattress on the floor. When the blanket was removed they saw Goddard lifeless body. She had cuts and bruises all over.
Curry reportedly told police that he and Goddard had gotten into a ‘brawl-level argument,’ and revealed that is the reason why (Goddard) ‘is so bruised up,’ the indictment alleges.
Additional details include Curry calling Goddard his ‘twin flame.’
In the indictment, details reveal Curry saying he claimed that a fight started between the pair, and when he began ‘hitting’ Goddard escalated.
‘That’s not working, so ok, I have to knife’ the teen, the indictment claimed.
Curry also told police, as per the indictment, that he had to stab her again and that ‘it was horrifying.’ He reportedly ‘stabbed’ the victim with a sword in the abdomen, the indictment claims.
According to the autopsy, Goddard was stabbed in the neck, torso, liver and arms.
Curry had reportedly told police he tried to take his own life by cutting his arms when he ‘realized [the victim] was dead, dead,’ the indictment claims.
An inspection of Curry’s bedroom led to the recovery of a sword, a kitchen knife, according to the indictment.
Goddard’s grandfather Michael Simmons said his granddaughter had a ‘difficult upbringing.’
He shared that the young woman was born in prison and then spent time in the care of the Rhode Island Department of Children, Youth and Families, according to WJAR.
‘There couldn’t have been a nicer, more soulful and more spiritual person,’ he recalled.
According to the non-profit GLADD, the teen was reportedly missing for years before her death.
In April, the organization wrote in a statement that Goddard, ‘went by both River and Nevaeh, used they and she pronouns.’
GLADD President and CEO, Sarah Kate Ellis said in the statement: ‘We are absolutely heartbroken to hear of the death of another nonbinary teenager, River Nevaeh Goddard, who had been reported missing for years after reportedly surviving childhood abuse and time in foster care.’
Goddard, who is from Rhode Island, ‘was failed in life, and it’s up to all of us to make sure we don’t fail them, or any other LGBTQ youth, now,’ Ellis said.
