Paul Slane, Port St Lucie, Florida man threatens couple with drawn out gun during road rage episode not knowing that they too have a gun in their possession.
‘Should I shoot him? A potentially fatal interaction was averted when a Florida driver pulled out a gun and threatened a married couple during a road rage incident on Tuesday. What the threatening man didn’t know is that the driver of the car he had just approached with his drawn out gun also had a weapon in his possession.
It all started Tuesday afternoon, 4.30 p.m when Paul Slane, 63, of Port St Lucie allegedly had an interaction with a married couple driving near the intersection of Southwest Heatherwood and Southwest California boulevards.
The victims attempted to go around Slane upon him ‘brake-checking them’ only for Slane to follow the couple and harass them according to Leo Niemczyk, assistant police chief of Port St. Lucie.
Road rage episode takes surprise turn
The couple aren’t entirely sure what led to Slater pursing the couple according to WPBF.
‘We haven’t been able to lock that down, what exactly set him off,’ Niemczyk told the outlet. ‘But who knows? It could have been a bad day. His goldfish could have died.’
The victims said the man even went so far as to follow them into their gated community and all the way to their house.
‘At their home, the vehicle drove in front of them, slammed on the brakes again, forced the victim to stop, got out of his vehicle brandishing a firearm,’ Niemczyk said.
That’s when the female victim in the passenger seat started recording on her phone.
Video released by Port St. Lucie police shows Slane getting out of his car with a 9mm gun in his hand and approaching the victims’ truck, screaming profanities.
At one point, the incensed driver reaches through the driver’s side window, hits the driver and tries to grab the phone out of the woman’s hands.
But there was more to come.
63-year-old Paul Slane decided it was a good idea to approach another vehicle with his gun drawn during a road rage encounter.
He’s lucky he didn’t get dropped right there in the street and only got arrested after this video was shared publicly.

‘Should I shoot him?’
The video shows the victim, who was driving, also with a gun in his lap.
‘Should I shoot him?’ the man is heard asking his wife on the video.
In the end, no shots were fired.
‘This guy’s behavior is absolutely unacceptable,’ Niemczyk said. ‘And he’s going to face the consequences.’
Slane following his arrest was booked on two counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, two counts of battery and one count of robbery with a firearm.
Slane remains held at the St. Lucie County jail without bond.
