Edgar James Bridgemon, Paris, Texas father gives 4 month old daughter gas to drink cause her mom didn’t want to have relationship with biological father as man is now charged with attempted capital murder.
A Paris, Texas father is accused of attempting to kill his 4 month old daughter after giving the girl gasoline to drink over the weekend.
Edgar James Bridgemon, 24, was arrested shortly after fleeing on foot, Saturday night after the Paris Police Department responding to an Emergency Services call at the 1300 block of Pine Bluff Street. The call came after the child’s mother momentarily returning home after having allowed the child’s father visitation access.
Emergency crews transported the child to Paris Regional Medical Center before later transferring the child to another hospital in the Dallas-Fort Worth area.
Biological father wanted relationship with child’s mother
Upon his arrest, the father was charged with attempted capital murder along with evading arrest, the Austin American Statesman reported.
During police questioning, the dad admitted to pouring gasoline into the infant’s mouth to drink in a bid to end the child’s life.
A report via FOX4 revealed that the 4 month old child’s condition was improving following the attempted poisoning.
‘You know, and I just want my baby to come home. You know, I want to hold her again, you know, it breaks my heart. It really does,’ the child’s mother told the outlet.
Speaking to FOX4, the mother suspected the attack may have occurred because she no longer wanted to have a relationship with Bridgemon. Nevertheless the mother said she had allowed the child’s father to ‘freely visit’ the baby.
‘It’s terrifying, like, I don’t think I can ever trust somebody with my kids again,’ the parent said.
The mom, who chose to keep her identity confidential, said she was not home when Bridgemom fed their daughter gasoline, but arrive home shortly afterward only to smell gasoline at the residence.
‘And then I asked him, ‘Why does it smell like gas?Why does it smell like gas in my house?’
A judge set Bridgemon’s bond at $255,000 — $250,000 for attempted capital murder and $5,000 for evading arrest.
The child’s condition remained unknown as of Wednesday morning.
No known motive was immediately known. Police continue to investigate.
