John Dimmig, Lake Worth, Florida man charged with attempted murder after beating man with baseball bat after catching him in bed with his wife.
A Florida man is alleged to have savagely beat his wife’s lover with an aluminium baseball bat after catching the man in bed with the spouse.
John Dimmig, 33, of Lake Worth upon his arrest was charged with attempted murder after the man allegedly ‘bursting’ into the victim’s AirBnb where he caught the startled couple.
Palm Beach County Deputies said they were called to an apartment at 820 S. Federal Highway around 11 p.m. on June 17 after receiving calls about an ‘armed domestic dispute,’ where upon they found the living room spattered with blood, CBS 2 reported.
A red trail led to the apartment’s bedroom, where the badly bloodied victim was lying on his back while holding a towel to his head.
‘I felt like he was out to kill me,’
According to an arrest report, he told deputies that he was a CT technician from Arizona in Florida for work.
He said Dimmig’s wife, Christie Barbato was his coworker and that they had gone out for drinks after work before returning to his Airbnb.
While in bed with her, he suddenly heard the front door open before seeing Dimmig charging toward him with a bat in hand.
The enraged husband pinned him down and bashed him three times with the metal club, according to the report.
‘I felt like he was out to kill me,’ the victim told responding officers.
Dimmig screamed at the man warning him not to go near his wife. She finally pulled her husband off of the victim before Dimmig fled the scene.
‘Stop! He’s bleeding!’
A video camera in the apartment captured her imploring him to end the assault.
‘John!,’ she could be heard screaming. ‘Stop! He’s bleeding!’
Dimmig is heard responding, calling someone a ‘piece of sh–’ inside the apartment.
Deputies later went to Dimmig’s home and found him loading his Hyundai accent with two bags of clothes.
His wife later signed off on a search warrant, and police found a black bat along with bloody garments, including a ripped t-shirt with apparent blood, ClickOrlando reported.
During questioning, Dimmig claimed that he had been at home all day, except for a brief visit to Publix at the intersection of Northlake Boulevard and U.S. Highway 1. He also mentioned having a bat stored in the closet for self-defense or recreational purposes like playing baseball or soccer.
Dimmig denied ever striking anyone with a bat.
Through further investigation, law enforcement identified Dimmig’s vehicle near the crime scene and placing the man under arrest.
Along with attempted murder, the husband also faces charges of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon and burglary with battery.
Dimmig is slated to appear in court on July 17 and currently remains in custody at Palm Beach County Jail,
