A Louisiana man fatally shot his wife before taking his own life, four days after being served divorce papers, authorities said.
The bodies of Kevin Fenerty, 59, and his wife, Siobhan Fenerty, also 59, were discovered Monday at their Metairie home after she failed to show up for work, Jefferson Parish sheriff’s officials told NOLA.com.
The couple separated in March, but still shared their home ‘due only to the COVID pandemic and the government mandated lockdowns’ while sleeping in separate bedrooms, according to her divorce petition.
The Fenertys were unable to mend their deteriorating marriage over the nine-month span, culminating with Siobhan serving her husband divorce papers last week, records cited by Nola show.
Kevin Fenerty was identified Thursday by Jefferson Parish coroner officials. His wife, who was found with multiple gunshot wounds, including one to the head, was identified Tuesday, NOLA.com previously reported.
Investigators said they suspect Fenerty killed himself after shooting his wife just four days after being served divorce papers in an apparent murder-suicide.
‘We believe it’s possible [he] was upset by the filing,’ Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office spokesman Capt. Jason Rivarde told NOLA.com.
