Detroit mother lives with 47 year old adult daughter’s corpse for six months, ‘I couldn’t part with her’. An autopsy is set to announce how the daughter died.
A Detroit mother is alleged to have been so distraught with the death of her 47 year old adult daughter that she decided to keep the woman’s death a secret, instead living with her daughter’s deceased body since November.
Notice of the 47 year old daughter’s death only came after the mother, known as Miss Mary went to the local police precinct on Sunday to report her daughter having died of natural causes more than six months ago.
FOX 2 reported residents on Seabaldt st where the grieving mother lived saying they had no idea what the Detroit mother, who lives on the west side of the city had been harboring in her four family apartment.
Told a neighbor, Kimberly Edwards, ‘I’m totally shocked that this could happen in our community right across the street’.
Edwards told of not having seen the daughter for some time and seldomly and believing the 47 year old had moved away.
Sources say that the mother’s daughter died last November, and her mother has been keeping her inside the home ever since.
‘I know how bad she must feel,’ said another neighbor, who didn’t want to be identified.
‘I can go down there and relate to her.’
It remained unclear what led to the 47 year old daughter dying and what treatment if any had been rendered prior to her death.

The mother reportedly covered her daughter’s body with blankets and used them to cover the windows, so no one could see in. While a cause of death has yet to be determined, neighbors said the daughter had health problems. An autopsy is in the process.
Of note, neighbors told via WXYZ-TV of observing the mother sitting every day by herself on the front porch of her home while her deceased daughter laid covered in blankets in her bed.
Of disconcert another individual lived in the four flat building, with neighbors wondering how the man, let alone the mother were able to live with the smell of a deteriorating corpse.
Under Michigan’s Public Heath Code, failure to report a death to law enforcement is a crime. It is a misdemeanor with a punishment of imprisonment of no more than one year or a fine up to $1,000.
It isn’t clear whether the the mother will be charged.
