Lori McAllen Oregon Department of Transportation DMV employee widely hated after Facebook post: ‘Shoot immigrants at the border’.

An Oregon DMV worker has become the object of scorn after advocating in a Facebook post the shooting of immigrants at the border.

Most hated and person non grata on social media, Lori McAllen was placed on leave by her employer on Thursday from the Oregon Department of Transportation after her Facebook post about immigration sparked backlash, the Oregonian reported.

‘I personally think they should shoot them all at the border and call it good,’ our collective hero wrote according to screenshots making the viral rounds. ‘It’ll save us hard working AMERICAN’S billions of dollars on our taxes!! ;)’

The Oregon DMV employee’s comments follow disconcert surrounding the Trump administration’s controversial policy of separating migrant children from their parents.

Following McAllen’s comments making the rounds on social media, it wasn’t too long before America also called on her being fired upon or at the very least fired.

The erupting furore underlined wide public discord over the treatment of immigrants, even by those who felt illegal immigration had to be contended but how exactly remained a vexing issue.

‘I call for the immediate dismissal of #LoriMcAllen this horrendous post is an abomination,’ wrote one Twitter user. ‘Remember we are all immigrants, like her ancestors before her we all came her in a ship, boat, car or airplane.’

Given the power of social media to vilify or congratulate an individual’s position, irrespective of how innocuous they may have believed themselves to have been at the time, McAllen perhaps to her own surprise found herself the symbol of antagonism amongst the public- underscoring the notion that one’s views are no longer just private but fodder for the public at large and inviting proxy to political correctness. Or else.

Come Thursday, sensing the imperative to act (and of course distance itself from the leaked fluid in its boiler room….) the Oregon Department of Transportation announced an employee was placed on leave for an ‘offensive Facebook post’ — while declining to refer McAllen by name.

‘We’re aware of a post that has been rapidly circulating through social channels espousing views offensive & abhorrent to the values of our agency,’ the DOT wrote on Twitter. ‘There is an active investigation into the matter. Thank you to those who have shared your concerns and we take this matter seriously.’
