Russian woman Ekaterina Fedyaeva dies after being embalmed alive following a medical blunder. A criminal investigation is underway in a suspected medical cover up.

Ekaterina Fedyaeva a 27 year old Russian woman has died after unwittingly being embalmed alive with a Formalin drip ahead of upcoming surgery in her hometown of Ulyanovsk.

The woman’s ‘agonizing’ death reported local media happened after the patient had ‘accidentally’ been put on a formaldehyde-based drip instead of a saline during surgery.

Instead of hydrating her system, the drip led to Fedyaeva’s veins being pumped with the chemical which is normally used to prevent the decomposition of corpses, according to the UK Sun.

The solution was later determined to also being used as a disinfectant for hospital rooms.

Told the victim’s mother, Galina Baryshnikova, This is pure murder’,

Adding, ‘[It] was simply eroding her body from inside.’

Ekaterina Fedyaeva initial pain passed over by medics:

Fedyaeva was getting a routine surgery at a hospital in Ulyanovsk last month when doctors placed her on a formalin drip, also used as a disinfectant at the hospital.

Following initial surgery, Fedyaeva headed home, only to violently vomit and incur chronic stomach pains. It wasn’t until her mother, Galina, decided to take her daughter to the hospital again that the extent of what had happened began to dawn on the shocked woman.

Told the mother, ‘For 14 hours after surgery she was living with this formalin and they did nothing’.

The ‘blunder’ led to Fedyaeva suffering pain and convulsions for two days following initial surgery before falling into a coma and being rushed to a hospital in Moscow.

‘Her legs were moving, she had convulsions, her whole body was shaking,’ told Baryshnikova. ‘I put socks on her, then a robe, then a blanket, but she was shivering to such an extent, I can’t even describe it.’

Adding, ‘No doctor came to see her although she was coming round from anesthetic’.

Ekaterina Fedyaeva: Doctors pump 52 drugs into patient’s system in last ditch effort to save her.

Despite her protestations, doctors urged Baryshnikova to stop worrying, go home and cook soup.

Attached to a life support machine, Fedyaeva soon after died of heart and lung failure.

By the time of her death, the dailymail reported medics using up to 52 drugs in a desperate attempt to save the woman.

In what is now being alleged to be a cover up, Baryshnikova claims doctors knew something was wrong, only to refuse to help her daughter.

‘People who performed the surgery already knew that they infused something wrong,’ she said. ‘They needed to take some urgent measures — but they did nothing.’

‘I begged, ‘Please help her, she is my only child,’’ she said.

Ekaterina Fedyaeva death: Negligence or murder?

The daughter’s death led to an un-named doctor eventually conceding, It wasn’t normal saline, they put formalin into her’.

‘It is such a crime,’ reiterated Baryshnikova. ‘I spoke to the criminal investigator, and he told me it was negligence. But this is pure murder.’

The name of the hospital where the medical blunder took place was not immediately clear. It was also unclear why Fedyaeva was undergoing surgery and to what degree the hospital and medics followed prescribed (if any…?) safety measures.

Ekaterina was buried April 7, and a criminal investigation is now underway.
