Jowi Victoria Morales a San Diego, California mother has been arrested after posting videos on Facebook showing an abused infant, including one image of a crying child clutching a pocketknife while being repeatedly slapped on the head.
The video of child abuse was posted at about 11:35 p.m. Wednesday on Facebook, leading to open outcry and police becoming involved.
In the post, a video clip shows a person’s hand striking a baby’s head three times, leading to the child crying. The post also includes two images showing a child holding a knife. The child was identified as Jowi Morales’ six months old daughter.
San Diego Police said Morales, 18, believed to be the mother of the child in the videos was arrested on outstanding domestic violence allegations. It wasn’t immediately clear if the teen mother had retained an attorney.
Abused child’s father and ex-boyfriend, “I just hope she gets help.”
Responding to the mother’s arrest, the child’s father Luis Lara, told KGTV-TV he was angry when he saw the video on Facebook. The father said the video, ‘hurts my soul.’
At the time, the child’s father and the child’s mother had been splitting time and taking care of their child since the recent demise of their relationship.
At one stage, the father upon confronting the mother after the video going viral, and demanding sole custody of the child was repeatedly hit in the head by Morales.
The father said he is struggling to understand why his ex girlfriend chose to share the video on social media, saying, ‘it helped with my baby not being abused anymore, but she should have never done that.’
Adding, ‘I just hope she gets help.’
Police say the child was taken into protective custody Thursday afternoon. They say domestic violence investigators are continuing the probe.
