Carlos Molina, a San Antonio, Texas father hailed a hero after killing a Popeyes gunman who threatened him and his children while dining. Gun rights debate.
Carlos Molina a 32 year old Texas father has been hailed a hero after taking down a teen gunman who entered a San Antonio Popeyes, who threatened him and his wife and his children.
The incident happened Wednesday evening, 9pm, as the father and his family were dining at the fast food joint when Andres Herrera, 19, walked in and demanded his money and belongings at gunpoint.
Fox San Antonio reported Molina telling Herrera that he had no money – because he spent it on the meal – and asked the teen if his family could leave.
Herrera then turned turned to the restaurant’s counter and pointed his gun at the manager according to the San Antonio Police Department.
Molina, his wife, and two of their children, prepared to leave, but had to wait for two more of his children who were still in the bathroom.
When they walked out into the dining room, Herrera pointed the gun at them, authorities say.
Molina, a licensed handgun owner, ‘quickly pulled out his own gun,’ and shot Herrera several times, killing him, police say.
‘He really saved the day and protected a lot of people today,’ San Antonio Police Department Captain Michael Starnes said.
Police said that Molina shot in defense of a third person. The incident remains under investigation reported WOAI.
Noted sacbee: It’s just the latest example of what gun rights’ advocates call a “good guy with a gun” neutralizing a “bad guy with a gun.”
The outlet referenced a vox article which pointing to a 2012 study that says more guns equals more gun deaths. In 2012, the study showed that about 30 people per million died of homicide by firearm in the U.S., while that number was far smaller in places with stricter gun laws like Australia, New Zealand, Germany and Austria.
Noted breitbart: On January 12, 2017, the New York Times editorial board opined,“The grim truth is that concealed-carry permit holders are rarely involved in stopping crime.” Mr. Molina’s actions at the Popeye’s restaurant in San Antonio are only the latest refutation of the New York Times‘ claim.
