What led to Yanelly Nelly Zoller shooting herself dead while reaching to get some candy from her grandma’s purse?
Yanelly ‘Nelly’ Zoller a four year old Tampa, Florida toddler has died after ‘accidentally’ shooting herself dead while reaching inside her grandmother’s purse.
Investigators say the girl had gone to get candy from her granny’s purse when she inadvertently pulled the trigger of a gun.
The incident occurred September 14, whilst the girl was visiting her paternal grandparents, Michael and Christie Zoller.
Nelly Zoller was pronounced dead from a single gunshot wound to the chest.
Told Nelly’s father, Shane Zoller via the Tampa Bay Times, ‘She just wanted some damn candy.’
Adding, ‘I was driving to pick her up with her bathing suit in my car to take her to the splash pads,’
‘When I pulled up, that’s when I saw all the police lights.’
The 22 year old father went on to say he was in high school when he became a father and would have had to quit school if not for his parents’ help. Zoller shared custody with Nelly’s mother.
According to Zoller, Yanelle who went by the name, Nelly, ‘loved’ playing with her puppy, watching cartoons, jumping on the couch and doing her makeup.
The father has one surviving child, a son, and another on the way.
Tampa police are looking into the shooting, but have no reason to doubt the family’s account.
Not necessarily clear is how the grandmother came to possess a gun and why or how the weapon was loaded at the time.
A GoFundMe page is raising money for Nelly’s funeral costs.
