In the latest installment of my name is Jason Russell and I have chosen to diabolically self implode center stage came the announcement via his wife, Danica Russell that the Invisible Children co founder has been diagnosed with a severe case of reactive psychosis which will compel her husband to spend the next few weeks cooped up in hospital as he seeks to regain balance and tranquility after last weeks episode which saw him frantically charging up and down the streets stark naked, cursing, wailing and thumping his fists on the floor.
What though has been the six million dollar question is what precipitated this meltdown of a man who until a few days ago was the toast of the town? After all it was no accident that his first directorial effort, Kony 2012had garnered to date over 100 million views in the brief time that it was released.
Anticipating the public’s appetite to be let in on her husband’s condition, Danica Russell went on to offer the following:
We would, again, like to make it clear that Jason’s incident was in no way the result of drugs or alcohol. The preliminary diagnosis he received is called brief reactive psychosis, an acute state brought on by the extreme exhaustion, stress and dehydration. Though new to us, the doctors say this is a common experience given the great mental, emotional and physical shock his body has gone through in these last two weeks. Even for us, it’s hard to understand the sudden transition from relative anonymity to worldwide attention — both raves and ridicules, in a matter of days.
Unfortunately for the Russells not many in the media bought the story and if anything the diagnosis only served to ramp up speculation as to what had let to Jason Russell for a lack of a better expression, jumping off the deep end?
According to one source who insisted on anonymity for fear of their life (why will soon become apparent) the co founder may have imploded as a reaction to no longer being able to deal with the disharmony of being homosexual and yet so aligned by forces who backed Invisible Children who are known to be staunch right wing supporters and opponents of same sex liasons.
Said our inside source at the time: “…..meaning one of the board members is so in denial they all are standing by the dehydration & stress story…. she actually suggested it was “sick” for saying it could be anything more… i told her out of compassion that if they continue to treat him with gatoraid lol & prayer hes likely to end up in a bad situation… as in he needs mental health care & or drug intervention because lets fact it that was no act of dehydration malnutrition and stress… i was diagnosed when i came back from xxxxxx dehydrated & mal nourished i had enlarged liver because of this & my mind was in no way altered like his was in the video… i honestly believe hes closet gay & its that secret thats eating him up & i truly fear for his life… mental or drugs whatever mixed with that kind of inner turmoil is a recipe for suicide or other harmful behavior.’

Invisible Children works with such anti-gay groups as National Christian Foundation, Focus on the Family, and American Research Council. The Fellowship Foundation works in conjunction with the fundamentalist shadow organization known as “The Fellowship AKA The Family” lists as members, political lawmakers like Senators Inhofe, DeMint, Coburn, Ensign, Grassley, Thurmond, etc. The Family has largely pushed Christian Ugandan lawmakers to propose a “kill the gays” bill, which would make homosexuality punishable by death.
This would tie in quite well given that Invisible Children has been publicly linked to anti gay donors as documented by NY Mag’s recent article that the charity’s major donors included “anti-gay, evolution-doubting evangelical groups, as well as the author of Uganda‘s anti-homosexuality bill, who has said ‘even animals are wiser than homosexuals.’” All this despite the outlet’s purported support of humanitarian aims.
Could it be then that Jason Russell was so vexed by the conundrum of his sexuality he was finding it harder to reconcile the marriage of his being with what many have alluded to be the subversive charter of his collective Invisible Children?
Curious to see what other readers thought on the issue I went through a consortium of highly visible media entities where I decided to take the more insightful and plain gnarly comments as to perhaps come to a closer understanding as to what may have set Mr Russell off, whether behind the scenes plays were on the table and to some extent the legitimacy of an outlet that may have for the time been chosen to make Mr Russell its sacrificial lamb.

Um, haven’t you guys seen the videos being made by Ugandans that are saying ‘kony 2012’ is not even close to being accurate? kony 2012 was only being used to try to get a military invasion going in Uganda, that’s all. It’s all propaganda. Remember, our corrupt government PROFITS from war. Our corrupt government goes into other countries under the guise of ‘humanitarian’ missions. However, our government could care less about the people, they are only interested in Africa’s resources, and how the U.S. can control them. Stop being so naive, people… Have a nice day! : )
The thing is that Ugandans say that the video is not accurate because kony hasn’t been active in Uganda in the last 6 years. If you interview the remote villages in Congo, Sudan and the DRC, you will find out that the LRA is active and that Kony is very much alive. One of the most recent atrocities that the LRA committed is called “Trail of Death,” referring to the trail of dead bodies from the Massacre in Makombo, December 2009. The LRA has attacked 20 times already this year, and the reason why people in Central Africa don’t bother to report them is because it’s too common, and it has been happening in the last 25 years or so. I agree that US intervention might not be the BEST solution, but I believe that by raising awareness, the government of the CAR, DRC, Uganda and Sudan will be more active towards the LRA.
Jason Russell’s issues, whatever they may be, are a private matter. What the rest of us should be concerned about is that millions have been duped into calling for increased U.S. military presence in Uganda, despite the fact that Kony isn’t there. The right-wing interest in Uganda is driven by the American religious wingnuts who desperately want to support their religious right-wing counterparts in Uganda.
Did they test the guy for any chemicals or foreign substances in his body? Were there any unusual injection sites? It’s very hard to believe the guy makes a lucent video like this and just when it gets big, well, he really was a nut job. There are people who really didn’t like what he was saying. Look at the obvious.
Lunatic. There’s no explaining it away. He was in plain view of women and children. He didn’t seem to be “troubled” when he was filming that movie. He actually seemed quite adept. I’m supposed to believe he just “snapped”? No. This guy is a pervert. And, had I seen him, I would have made a citizen’s arrest.
I’m glad so many here are sooooo smart they know more than the doctors treating his illness. Stress can do terrible things to your mind and body..I also had a beautiful nephew in the prime of his life who lost it all to a brain disease that destroyed his frontal lobes……you should be wishing him a speedy and full recovery instead of treating him with derision…
Maybe if this anti-gay, right-wing, x-tian actually had smoked some drugs — he wouldn’t have ended up naked in the streets fighting people and playing with himself for the cameras.
This man’s “brief reactive psychosis” is just another tea party hypocrite’s meltdown. They look in the mirror one day, and faced with their own lies and willful ignorance — they flip out. This guy’s case is mild. Often times these men shoot people or kill their families.
I knew this event had nothing to do with pot, meth or coke when I first saw the clip. People smoking drugs are still aware of whether or not they have on clothes. Come on.
There’s a ton of drugs being huffed, puffed and snorted in this country. If drugs made people jump on top of cars naked — there would be nude people clogging the streets of every city, town and hamlet in America.

32 seems a little late to be having your first manic episode. Usually that would happen in your early twenties, no?
First public episode. Before he was famous his family would have been able to keep it private. And the manic episodes could be rare. The whole KONY campaign seems a little misguided, could have been done in a mania/hypomania state. People suffering from Bi-polar disorder can feel like they’re chosen or on a mission with delusion as only part of the mental state.
“his poor son and wife will pay the price” — in every case of a closet Christian I’ve seen, the wife is at best an enabler, but usually using the husband (often as a non-sexual best friend). The wife is almost always either in the know, or part of the problem.
His vid is only being promoted 6 years after rough cut because of Uganda’s newly found oil. 2. He aligns himself w/anti-gay movements to fight his homosexuality3. His mannerisms hinted gay in interviews. This solidifies it4. Thanks to his Christian upbringing, he’s going crazy hiding his homo5. …and his poor son and wife will pay the price….but his wife would have to be in denial not to see this flamer for what he is.

Worked in the field for decades. It’s a fairly typical psychotic episode. Per my experience, most shame-based events are powered by an anxiety disorder and panic attacks. There was most likely a triggering event to produce the psychosis. For example, acting out on an impulse they can’t consciously accept. This is a terrible, horrifying experience for anyone, and life will never be the same. If he’s in the closet let him be. It’s his decision.
