This past Wednesday evening guests and friends attended Society’s Choice and Entrepreneurs and Professionals Networking holiday event, which in this author’s estimation wasn’t so much about networking but more about listening to wonderful talent, coming out to find out about some notable causes (more on that soon) and being amongst kindred friends. Of course I would also be lying it I didn’t say it was also about Dr Shireen Fernandez, Society’s Choice co president along with my dear friend Alex Harris reminding you why she will always be more fabulous than you as well…
Keeping up with their busy retinue of social gatherings and fundraiser efforts (one really must applaud this group for their ongoing commitment and stewardship- after all how easy it is to just forget and look the other way?) Society’s Choice alongside Maggie Delany and her husband the too suave Hubert pulled off another enjoyable evening where yours truly was exposed to the delights of some compelling talent; tenor, Luciano Lamonarca (who’s voice is too amazing, and to which effect I have added a video at the end of this article so you can hear for yourself), Christina Fontanelli, another equally talented soprano (where do Alex and Dr Shireen find them?) as well as Mitch Stevens and Roberto Trevisian who managed to put on a good performance on stage, but as I have reiterated who really put on the best performance was Dr Shireen who strutted the catwalk deck in her floral high heels (yes I kid you not) and her beaming smile which seemed to catch every wanton paparazzo- oh well…
This being a charity fundraiser as well as an end of year get together which I have been fortunate to come along to a few of (the 4th of July gathering still remains by far one of the most raunchiest and memorable) there were also charity heads to meet. Represented at Wednesday’s fete which had guests had come to donate toys to were H.A.V.A for Haiti and Max Cure Foundation (kids with cancer and finally Flawless Foundations (kids with neurodevelopmental challenges)- whom we all managed to catch up with during Halloween for a splendid night out.
Sitting down with President Carpenter Laborde and Marie Delus, Volunteer partner of H.A.V.A for Haiti I was both delighted and somewhat troubled by what I got to hear. Delighted that Carpenter and Marie were resolute in keeping up with their campaign to bring sustenance to individuals in districts of Haiti that they insisted were literally forgotten by the local politicos. To that end HAVA had just returned from Haiti where they were able to afford some of the village inhabitants in those way out of the enclaves their very first taste of Christmas with some hearty home cooking and toys that they had brought with them (which they assured me the children relished).
